Hello everyone! I'm new here, my name is Victoria.

I was wondering when writing is there a word or anything that you over use?
Foe example I noticed I use the word "okay" a lot and my stories can tend to get a bit over dramatic.

How about you?

Thanks ;)

I use like, right, and seriously a lot. And whenever I am trying to write historic fiction, I inevitably use modern slang that ruins the credibility of my story. But my absolute worse habit when it comes to writing is that I do a lot of telling and not enough showing.
I am not addicted to reading, I can quit as soon as I finish one more chapter.

Moved to Writers Corner. Writing Activities is more for word games and fun prompts than discussions.

No words in particular come to mind, but I haven't written much recently, so... XD

I definitely abuse the XD and :P smilies while chatting, though.

Anything that connects ideas, really. Also, so, then, and... I think that's it. Probably more I'm not aware of, but those I notice I tend to abuse.

I abuse water/skies/wings imagery. I also have a rather persistent fixation on eyes and light/dark contrasts.
I ramble a lot, and gleefully abuse the comma and semi-colon. Dashes too. There might possibly be a correlation between the rambling and the punctuation abuse. Possibly.
Also adjectives. And generally words that end in -y.
Sentence fragments too.

I use yeah a lot.

Haha, I overuse "So" and "anyway" in my writing and reviewing.

I overuse "but" a lot.

Too often we crave the extraordinary in life, without even learning how to cherish the ordinary first. Friend, I promise you this: if you can learn to take joy in the simple mundane things in life, the extraordinary will take care of itself, it'll be on its way, hurrying towards you. But if you skip the first part, it'll ever evade you.
