I'm not entirely sure where this belongs, but I figured this was as good a place as any, what with the "so that others can learn from your experience" clause an' all. (Sorry if there's already a thread like this, or a more appropriate place for it to be.)

So, now that I got all of that out of the way~ Here's a place to share your writing-related resolutions for 2008. "What are your goals?" and of course, the ever-important: "how do you plan to accomplish them?"

1.]Get published.
This is sort of easy, since I'm a regular writer for the local newspaper and I'm wishing for YWSLJ to accept my submissions. But to a real magazine.

2.]Finish my novel.
I'm already in the writing stage. Editing counts, as well. I guess.

3.]Umm...Reach 200 reviews.
Get on YWS more?

4.]Make an awesome short story.
That is..still in the future.

5.]Get first place in the FPS scenario short-story contest.
I got second place last year, and I know what I did wrong. So maybe this year. I'm typing it up at the moment.

That's pretty much it. Side projects such as short stories and little stuff such as that, of course, is required for me. But these are my biggies.

Awesome thread, Meep!

1) Get published to a magazine.
I've already sent in my submission.

2) Have half of my novel written and edited.
Stop procrastinating!

3) 500 reviews.
Get out there and start reviewing!

4) Start editing my Nano.
Rats...I should be doing that now, but...heh.

5) Start a dream journal.
Start sleeping...?

Yeah, I'll probably be editing this - scratching out goals once I've completed them, add more, you know. :)

Simple. Keep my diary. In 2007 I only managed 41 pages. Do better this time.

Hmmm....let me see...

1) edit/rewrite novel, whichever prooves more appropriate

2)journal regularly

3)poem a day until notebook (currently empty) is full

4)story a month (ditto notebook sitaution above)

5) Always have a piece in the post (or email-can I call that cyberpost?), whether on its way to a publication, or on its way back to me from a publication.

6) Type pieces up more regularly so I'm not going on frantic typing binges trying to get everything onto the computer.

1: Finish editing my novel. (Making a good start on it so far...)

2: Query an article at least once a month. (And hopefully get published that often as well!)

3: Get my novel into the hands of an editor/agent/publisher. (Once it's finished...)

4: Attend a writing conference. (There's one coming up in April, I think.)

5: Blog regularly. (If anyone knows a really good blog site, I'd love it if you'd drop me a letter.)

Yup, that's it... I need to copy these down for myself. :-)

I'm glad to see people like the thread. :) (The added bonus, of course, is that you can look at everyone else's goals and get ideas from them!)

My writing goals are ...
  • win NaNoWriMo (this is the tiebreaker!)
» this one's pretty straightforward: write 1,667 words per day in November
  • write for at least 15 minutes a day/3x a week
» schedule a time to write (and do it)
  • get to 250 reviews (five yellow stars)
» write 1.3+ reviews per week
  • do 12 in 2008 (word goal: 2,500)
    » by writing 15 minutes a day, 3x a week (see ^)
  • do something creative (write, draw, take a photo, &c.) every day
» if I post it somewhere, I'll be embarrassed if I neglect to do it
  • take the 50 book challenge
» read a book every week

Well, the last two aren't strictly writing-related, but they're close enough. (Somehow I doubt I'll be able to do the 50 book challenge, what with college and work and travel and all.)

1. Remember= Happiness is more important than Writing
This is really the reason I left. I was getting relly depressed for many reasons, but the constant being locked in my room writing rubbish instead of doing other things was big. So I'm going to try and write lots, but sty happy as well.

2. Critique more
I try and crit a lot, but sometimes I'll go ages without critiquing, so I'm going to try and do more by, erm, ah, um, well... just being on the site everyday or so and critiquing really.

3. Win some sort of writing competition.
I've never won a writing contest, and I'd really love too. I guess to do this I just need to find out about loads and enter them with my best work until I win something.

4. Write different things
I wan to try new genres. I've started a bit of Fantasy, but I'd also love to ahve a go at historical, scifi and crime
*Don't expect to see me around much in the next couple of weeks. School has started again, and it'll be a couple of weeks before I've settled in. If you've asked me for a critique, you will get it, but not for a little while. Sorry*

1. Read 50 books in 2008. Keep a journal about each book.

2. Write a poem, short story, incomprehensible ramblings or whatever at least once a week.

3. Critique something every day. Therefore hopefully achieve one thousand reviews fairly soon, and try and become an active critiquer once more.

1. Read more books than I did this past year (35). (Jack, I keep a live journal/blog for my books, you should get an lj!)

2. Finish my rough draft for Death machine

3. End the year with a second draft.

4. Write another really good one-act before November. (There really want me to do another play, haha)

5. Learn how to better write setting, and make it my "other character".

1. Finish a second joint novel - Simple, just phone Claire at least once a month and get the story written. Afterall, the plan is complete and we're both quite enthusiastic about it.

2. Reach five red stars by the 15th May - That means an average of two reviews a day.

1. Work on and complete a first draft to a story/novel attempt
Right now I'm more or less doing that, though I haven't actually written much. o.o

2. Remember to send in word counts at the end of each month for NaNoWriYe.

3. Do not give up on NaNoWriYe.
I tried it last year, and after a few months I stopped bothering to send in word counts and stuff.

4. Get to the point where I can finally edit and then rewrite something.
I would love to be at this stage. I've dreamed of being at this stage.

5. Not entirely writing related, but read more fantasy books.
I say I'm a fantasy writer and a fantasy lover, but I have hardly read any fantasy books. This needs to change. Especially since reading books of your genre generally tends to help to improve your writing. Or something like that.

6. Also not entirely writing related, but get Inspired Writers to what it once was as far as activity goes.
Right now the board is in a slump. My co-admin/moderators and I are struggling to come up with ways of getting more people to be active, but we're rather blocked. This needs to change, or what is potentially a great board will die eventually. :|

7. Learn to better develop my characters, plots, world, etc.
I struggle a lot with this. Sometimes I'll have ideas for a character, but they're rather basic and I struggle to really develop them and get to know them better.

8. Make it through the entire year with NaNoWriYe
It doesn't really matter if I happen to finish anything during NaNoWriYe to me, as long as I actually make it through the entire year and continuously send in my word count and stuff.

9. Learn to not rely on others as much to help with ideas and plots
I need to come up with things on my own, even when I'm blocked. I need to use other people's brains for ideas when I am absolutely desperate and that's it. I've kind of been starting to do that, but it's something I need to continue doing.

- Finish my ongoing story [finally]

- do a full edit on said story at least once

- Perfect my theme series of poetry type thing

- think up something new

- be able to come up with a "portfolio" of at least 50,000 words

- dominate description

Yeah... someone remind me of these in a few months...

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices; to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicions can destroy. A thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own.
