As a Bard my themes will be nature and being outdoors (including space, oceans etc.).

They Can Take My Life

There’s boy in my class everyone says are cool
and people like me they’d run right through.
There’s rainbows they wish they could bottle
and coal they want to burn.

There’s power and anger
and sadness and sorrow
that’s all been forgotten.
Summer winds and winter storms they hate.

People like me they wish would disappear.
People like me they bully until we fear
the very sound of their rubber shoes
and angry voice.

There’s you and me
by the classroom window
they wish that they
could kill with every ounce of their being.

They told me so I knew for sure. They said I’d go to hell and that I’d burn till I was melting. They said they’d wait a little while and watch me turn to dust.

They said I had no blood.
They said I was a freak.
They said I deserved
to die. They said they were the ones to decide.

Shadows Lost Between The Roots

Sunflower fields overgrown
with daisies and poppies that
strangle the soil. Old pots
cracked and roots all tangled
and knotted like twisted strands
of hair I meant to braid. Swaying flowers
with heads pointed up to the sun, scratching
my porch with their black seeded caps
and squirming in the dust. Over
time growing like vines up the pillars
of my house - strangling it and
growing inside until even the taps
are bent and snapped and the pipes
are squashed.

Until the world that used to cry,
filled with sunshine, stayed dry all
day and finally slept before
the moon set and drought back
the pleading for the rains and the old
vine-like roots dying like drapes
and returning to the home
of the poppies where the soldiers lay.
