November 10, 538-A Holiday Retreat
The Princess left today for Belingard
to celebrate some harvest festival
for her husband's river gods.
"Bring anything you want
except her".
He pointed at me and glared
and I knew at once that he knows,
or at least suspects.
This morning,
she kissed me goodbye
and told me not to miss her.
Without her watching,
I can spend the day on Moon Street,
arm in arm with Magda.
She tells me stories of Helvida,
that cold land of freedom,
and asks me what it was like
growing up on the fisherman's wharf.
It is only then that I realize
the Princess never thought
to ask me much at all.
When the spring comes,
Magda will fly back north,
and I have half a mind to join her.
