I have to pick between The All-American Rejects and Greenday? Yeah um, I don't really know any of the other bands, except maybe My Chemical Romance. I'm not really emo actually I could be the farthest thing from it but I do like the music.

Greenday isn't Emo? ahem. I beg to differ.

"Wake me up when September Ends"? Hello. If that song isn't Emo, I'm the Queen of England.

And NAI, since you started this Emo thread, I must strangle you with the American flag.

What's wrong with emo????!

I would answer your question, but I'm afraid I'd get in trouble. :P

Anyway, I like My Chemical Romance. I liked Green Day for a while till one day I started listening to the songs and was like "This is CRAP," and deleted the songs off my pc...

I don't understand this! Some people are saying Emo is heavy metal and some are saying it's bands like Deathcab!
I think music is however you see it, no one should feel ashamed of what they listen to.
Emo isn't used in Britain, if you dress all in black your a Goth and if you are a skater people label you a Greb. I'm not anything, my friends like being called Grebs and Goths, I don't. I want to be me.
And I pose the same question as MisterWaffels and countless others what is wrong with Emo?

So what do people think Emo people are? I need this confirmed:

Do they: (I got this from a website)

Moan a lot about nothing?
Wear dark clothing and don't really care about fashion?
Listen to depressing music?
Are very sensitive?

emo is emotionally charged punk music. it comes from "emotive hardcore" not emotional (which is what most people think). thrice is emo. jawbreaker sunny day real estate are emo-ish (or what is called post-emo, a style that emerged in the 90s after the late 80s explosion of emo music) . i quite like a lot of what is now described as emo music, but emocore/hardcore emo (which is quite like heavy metal) isn't really my style, even though that is the real emo as it started out.

the thing is mostly what is marketed as emo now isn't actually what emo began as and is hugely different from real emo bands. thats why people often have trouble defining it. proper emo would be bands like fugazi, rites of spring and funeral diner.

my chemical romance, taking back sunday etc. aren't actually emo at all. they're a totally different category of music but mtv etc has changed the definition of emo to suit themselves. they're pop-punk but somehow they just got labelled as emo.

in conclusion! rite of spring = emo, my chemical romance = not, no matter what anyone tells you.

(i know that all sounds a bit confusing but i can't explain it very well :( )

I had been listening to them. For like 3 weeks. Then all the sudden I listened to the songs again and I hated them. :P

You have just defined what is called a "Woe-Is-Me" "Emo-kid." I find them quite annoying. They need to stop whining about problems that everyone has and go get jobs. :P

My problem with emo is this: most of these "emo kids" whine and cry about nothing, about problems that we all have, and deal with without crying and moaning and slitting our writsts. I mean, come on, we've all been dumped...its not something to cry in the corner and cry. That is why emo is bad, evil, and the spawn of satan. Now, don't get me wrong, a little bit of quasi-emo is alright once in a while, but over all its CRAP.

I've been deemed "emo" and when I asked for a definition of what that was, they said it was having extremely high highs and extremely low lows. Anyone else heard that definition?
