I was using stumble upon, just wasting time, when I came across this:
http://bookblog.net/gender/genie.php
Essentially, it claimed that this thing would identify my gender based on a piece of writing by me. I immediately posted a short story I had written some time ago in.
It then said that I was male.
Excited, I continued. All my short stories came out male.
Wait...what about my novel?
I posted each individual chapter. I began to recognize a pattern - in most chapters where my female characters had particularly dominant roles, it incorrectly said that I was female.
Then I got the idea of posting my entire novel. Well, what's been written so far.
I don't recommend it. I'm lucky my computer didn't crash.
Anyway...
The entire novel was male, overall.
Gender Genie works by identifying key words - commonly used words, like "the", "and", and "not". Some give points to female, some give points to male. The reason for the pattern I mentioned above is that "she" and "her" are among female words. (Strangely, "he" and "his" are not male words)
