What are your favorite books that you read in 2008? If you're like me, then your list might include every book you read, so feel free to list as many as you want to.
Hmm, the amount of books I read this year is pretty slim, but here goes:
The Swan Kingdom, by Zoe Merrott The Lost Years of Merlin book 1 by T.A. Barron Brisingr by Christopher Paolini DragonKeeper Chronicles books 1 & 2, by Donita K. Paul
A writer is a world trapped in a person— Victor Hugo
Ink is blood. Paper is bandages. The wounded press books to their heart to know they're not alone.
Jane Eyre (again) - Charlotte Bronte
Villette - (again) Charlotte Bronte
Wuthering Heights (again) - Emily Bronte
Actually I won't go into classics, too many *-)
Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder
because it is one of those books that honestly does change your life. A lot of books get hype for 'changing your life' when they really do nothing, but this is one of the few that actually does change your life. Or at least changes your perspective on life. I also love it for introducing me to so many great philosophers, many of which I now adore
So basically, it's a great book xD

I reread The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.
Half Broken Things by Morag joss
Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
Keeping Faith by " "
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
Moab is my Washpot by Stephen Fry
Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix
A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel Pink
The second one made me jump up and down in delight. The "smart" jobs are all being transfered to foreigners who can do it more cheaply, and computers are doing a lot, too, so the right-brainers are going to be more important now. YAY!
I won't list them all, but I read a bunch of Robin McKinley's books this year, and I absolutely love them.
Only read about half so far, but Ovid's Metamorphoses! Started for a class, and I left it up at school, so I have something to read when I go back, at least!
Penguin Anthology of WW1 poetry
Utopia, Sir Thomas Moore.
A bunch of John Donne's poetry (because yes, it totally counts)
I'll update when I remember what else I've read this year ^^
***Under the Responsibility of S.P.E.W.*** (Sadistic Perplexion of Everyone's Wits)
Medieval Lit! Come here to find out who Chaucer plagiarized and translated - and why and how it worked in the late 1300s.
Dont get made at me, Its not my fault that they are good books
I came into this world wrinkled and ugly. And no matter how much I accumulate here, it's a short journey. I will go out of this world wrinkled and ugly. So I enjoy life.
Hasn't been a massive reading year for me for some reason.
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay - Michael Chabon. Just brilliant.
Fire From Heaven - Mary Renault
A Song of Ice and Fire Series - George R. R. Martin - Read the first and thought it was outstanding, so quickly bought the rest over the summer and smashed through them. Fairly disappointed with the fourth book, however, so my interest slowed. But overall a great fantasy series.
The Sirens of Titan - Kurt Vonnegut
Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair - Pablo Neruda. Some gorgeous poetry.
The Yiddish Policemen's Union - Michael Chabon. Amazing book. Can't wait for the film adaptation.
Nate wrote:And if YWS ever does become a company, Jack will be the President of European Operations. In fact, I'm just going to call him that anyways.
"Diary of a Young Girl" (the Anne Frank story)
"Raven Rise" by D.J. MacHale
"Ender in Exile" by Orson Scott Card
"Holes" and "Small Steps" by Louis Sachar
Everything I've read by Ray Bradbury (XD)
"Rosemary's Baby" by Ira Levin
"The Year of Living Biblically" by A.J. Jacobs
Yep. Kind of a bad year for me, too. XD
Graveyard Boy - Neil Gaiman
Coraline - Neil Gaiman - they were both brilliant. And the movie is coming soon!
Gardens of the Moon and the whole series of the Tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen == long series, but probably the best fantasy series of all time.
The Name of the Wind --can't remember the author's name XD and I leant it to a friend so I can't check up on it.
Watchmen - Alan Moore. Awesomeness. (can't wait for the movie)
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Alan Moore. Great stuff.
Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norrel by Susan Clark.
*
I read a lot more than this, or at least it feels like I did, but I can't remember any others right now :p
Le Petit Prince - Saint Exupery
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer
Frankenstein - Mary Shelley
Dracula - Bram Stoker
As I lay Dying - William Faulkner
My Antonia - Willa Cather
Everything is Illuminated - JSF, again!
Night - Elie Wiesel
Going over my list, this actually wasn't a bad reading year for me! I love having a book blog, otherwise I would have forgotten half of those.
