I seriously love Otep, and her ability to deliver her poetry in such a savage, very original manner, being one of the only women to headline a band and take Ozzfest by storm all at once. She writes about the deeper issues in life that are the taboos of society. If you are slightly squeamish, or hate metal, then Otep is not for you. Her song, Warhead was one of the best I've heard when it comes to voicing your opinion. Ghost flowers was a somewhat softer option, dealing with death and vengeance, while Warhead was brutal anger and condemnation. (I'll not get into the Politics of the song here).
As for AFI, frontman Davey Havok is my hero for his very beautiful singing voice, and hie lyrics tend to touch a nerve with me. Sing the Sorrow was just that. Every note and chord was building in the mood. This Celluloid Dream hit me as a jaw dropping shot of lyrical genius, in the way it was delivered, along with Girl's Not Grey. Their harder, Punk music is good, as well, but their development as a band is interesting to watch.

THIS CELLULOID DREAM- By AFI
"Calling tears from deep inside, oh, you're so exquisite
And in the mirror, all midnight eyes
Oh, if I could remain, but it's just a visit
All midnight eyes read "vacancy"
Twisted, twisting

To the lovely dancing lights, I begged, "May I cut in?"
But they never stopped playing "their song"
Of a joyous song they sing, I've heard whispers
On a freezing note, I resonate

Just like romantic verses, just like a joyous end
Just like a memory, it twists me
Just like romantic verses, just like a joyous end
Twist... twisting me

You land as lightly as the new snow, cinematic
Onto the melting boy, and melt away
You light as gently, you're so cinematic
Bathed in your radiance, I melt

In the glitter, in the dark, sunk into velvet
Praying this will never end
In the shadow of a star, in static pallor
I realized I never began

Just like romantic verses, just like a joyous end
Just like a memory, it twists me
Just like romantic verses, just like a joyous end
Twist... twisting me

You land as lightly as the new snow, cinematic
Onto the melting boy, and melt away
You light as gently, you're so cinematic
Bathed in your radiance, I melt

All the colours upon leaving, all will turn to grey
All the colours upon leaving, all will turn to grey
(All grey) All the colours (All grey) upon leaving
(All grey) all will turn to grey
(All grey) All the colours (All grey) upon leaving
(All grey) all will turn to grey... grey... twisting me

You land as lightly as the new snow, cinematic
Onto the melting boy, and melt away
You light as gently, you're so cinematic
Bathed in your radiance

You land as lightly as the new snow, cinematic
You land as lightly as the new snow, and melt away
You land as lightly as the new snow, cinematic
Bathed in your radiance, I melt"

If you like any of these band's work, feel free to talk!! Plus, if you have bands that are similar, I'd love to hear them.

If you don't like Hardcore metal you might not like Warhead, or some of her freakier songs, but it's nice to have a fellow metalhead here.
