Yes, I know no-tolerance policies exist for a reason, but they don't work. As I have said, in Toronto, it only made matters worse. Even if this girl was misbehaving and poking people with the scissors, she is a child. We should not arrest children that young. When you're that young, you get sent to the principal's office, get detention, get certain privilages taken away, maybe even get suspended for a few days if the scissors were sharp enough to seriously hurt other children but there was no reason to get the police involved. If we want our children to learn how to behave, I've noticed that less severe punishments are more effective as long as the child has learned why the behaviour is wrong.
