Technically they're only the Champions of the United States, since we don't invite any other teams to our "World" Series.

Canada--Toronto Blue Jays won two years in the early 90s. And its broadcast to over 90 countries. They said so in the telecast.

So what? Broadcasting it to other countries doesn't make it a world sport. That would make the English Premiership League (soccer league) a world league, when only teams from England are in it....

Saying that, I did watch five minutes of the "World" Series last night.

I'm American and while I am happy for you that your team won, I don't actually give a wet hanky about sports. And why is it called the World series if we don't invite anyone else?

No serious, the White Sox won the World Series.

However, it would be cool if the challenge did extend world wide. I know that Baseball is very big in Japan, so there are possibilities.

So, just because it is popular in Japan it is called World Series? Or if you consider something it a possibilty you call it World Series? Theres a saying around here..

Arvy, you misunderstood what Grif said. He was talking about the possibility of opening up the World series playoffs to Japan as well since baseball is big there as well.

In any case, the World Series is called as such because it includes both the US and Canada. Calling it something like the All-American series would not go over well with the Canadians, even though they currently only have the Toronto Blue Jays.

But to get away from such silly arguments (do people really need to nitpick over something as trivial as a name???), I'm just angry at the stupid San Diego Padres! If it weren't for them, the Washington Nationals might have had a chance to get in the playoffs

Kudos to the White Sox though. I forgot they even existed for a while

Sab, just because the team is in Toronto doesn't make the players Canadian, just like all those "American" hockey teams. Although that was a very proud day for the city (they even made an announcement that morning at school) none of the players were born in Canada. My father works for the team and he's never mentioned any Canadian Blue Jays.
