For me, coming up with names is pure torture. I end up writing the whole story calling them 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and so on. I spend hours searching sites, racking my brain, looking in the phone book. It's ridiculous how hard it is to come up with a simple name!

So, how am I solving this? By starting this thread!

I was thinking people could put their favorite names in this thread, so we can have a place to go to when we need a good name. (No more pushing our way past the awful names to get to the one amazing one within!)

Only put realistic names. No fantasy - someone else can start a thread for that. You may offer both first and last names.

[s]I will create the master list, so you can see all the names quickly, without pushing through all the pages. (That's what we're trying to avoid, right?)[/s]
Just glance through the pages. That is easier than going through a hundred page book, so it still serves it's purpose.

Please leave something. Even if it's your real name, it may help someone! And take as many as you'd like - you don't need to let us know when you use something. (There are hundreds of books with a main character having the same first name, so it doesn't matter if we all use some of the same names. It's bound to happen eventually.)

Here are mine:

First Names
- Samantha
- Jake
- Amber
- Liam
- Katherine

Last Names
- Mathis
- Medina
- Barrett
- Garret

Jeez! Am I the only one on this site with an inability to come up with names? I only added about 5 to the list, and I assumed that's what most people would do.

Oh, well, this list still helps me and the few others who are name-challenged.

Don't be shy! Just leave a name or two; you don't need to spend hours writing all the names you can. Actually, I only want your absolute favorites. That way, we have a list of the best names.

I have really old, historical names that you would have a hard time finding in a phonebook nowadays. Anyone need any of those? A lot of these are common syllables for names put together--I hope you like those! And yes, I put the names from "Twilight" on here--but they are old and they are unique, no? Besides, I loved the name Carlisle! Where I could, I put the meaning of the name and/or origin. I hope these names help someone out!!!

-x-Ashes (You could even use my name--"Ashlyn" which is Old English for "Ash Tree".)

Cyrus--Persian; this character of mine is an overly-playful vampire
Scarlet--from Gone With the Wind's Scarlett to my Scarlet, this name conveys so much
Rain--Rain loves to dance and she doesn't take no for an answer
Tsarina--play off the name "Serena"
Alexius--actually for a boy, I found it works for quiet yet determined, stubborn characters
Marceaux, prounounced "Mar-so"--French; this character in my story is a playful narcissist
Julius--I found this works WONDERFULLY for sadistic, strong villians
Timian--play off the tribe of "Simeon" in the Bible--intended for a girl
Kiori--this black-haired, amethyst-eyed character's name sounded like a type of flower, so I went with it
Marquis--French; AMarquis is as stubborn as I don't know what
Alister--this character in my story is a fire-raiser
Uri/Uriel--to be the Angel of Death, Uriel is quite a playful angel in my stories
Savannah--a red-headed, freckle-faced, hot-headed tomboy
Saige--"wise" (Gaelic, I believe); she's my best friend!
Ari/Ariel/Airiel--"lion of God" in Hebrew; use "Airiel" for a girl, "Ariel" for a boy
Aerith--I found it works for quiet, sweet females
Johann--German; reminds me of "Jonathan"
Ishmael--Hebrew; this character of mine is a stuttering, awkward young man--but when it comes to lying, this lawyer can weave a tale from nothing
Lillith--she's a cruel sadistic witch, but it'll work for a goody-goody character, too!
Percival--I was upset when this character died in a book I was reading, so I borrowed the name for a character I just couldn't think of a name for
Jasper--it's a very Southern name...
Rosalie/Rose--if you've read Twilight or know anyone by the name of "Rosalie" or "Rose", doesn't it seem to convey beauty?
Edward--from anime to literature, this remains a favorite name for me
William--this character of a friend's just doesn't know what he wants
Carlisle--English; there's a city in England called "Carlisle"
Esme--sounds mommy-ish, doesn't it?
Emi--"smile" in French
Amira--"everlasting" in Italian
Felix--no, not the cat
Wilhelm--German for the name "William"
Taegel--this was a mom's coworker's name
Raphael--deals with Healing
Marika--I like this way this sounds for some reason
Marcel--this is a friend's middle name--it's French
Elle--"light of God" in Hebrew
Noelle--pair it with Leon and they're wonderful names for twins
Leon--I love this name
Janina--yes, Marika, Janina, and Chaya are all names from Holocaust books
Chaya, pronouned "Hiya"--it's Hebrew for "life"
Kina--I have no idea how I thought of this name, but she's a doe-eyed, sarcastic tomboy
Filiti--"faithful" in Italian (I believe--it may be Belgian)
Hayani--I have no idea how I thought of this name, but it's adorable for a boy, no?
Montmorency--it's French--I read the book, I love the name, I adore the character

I've got a tonne; some of them probably are already here, but hopefully some won't be.

Blake
Nate
Tobias (and Toby)
Todd
Jamie
Alex
Adam
Seth
Noah
Cameron

Joshua
Micah
Samuel
Zach
Jack

For girls:

Christian
Brianna
Madeleine
Dinah
Leah
Noémi

Haha, you guys kind of missed the point. You're supposed to come up with a few of your absolute favorite names. Otherwise we might as well go on any old name site.

Ah, well. I probably won't keep up with the master list, though.
