Sweet child of mine
She sleeps in the house of darkest souls
Where marble statues of gods come alive
At twelve midnight
To whisper into her nightmares
Casting her fears away

My baby girl opens her eyes
To embrace the hours before first light
Lovely cherub
She descends the mahogony stairs
With a teddy bear safe within her tiny grasp

Soft creature of innocence
My baby girl stares into the eyes of Aphrodite
As the moving portrait of Mona Lisa smiles at her lovingly
My baby girl
She is curious
She is frightened

Sweet child of mine
Do not run
For you shall find yourself
Escaping to your doom
Fleeing deeper into your grave

Sweet child of mine
Fear not
When you are cradled in my arms
As we rise into the starry night sky
I shall take you to a faraway land
Where you will make your own destiny

A very moving set of lyrics, very gentle and flowing, it definitely matches the theme of the piece: a parent consoling their child. (That's right? Right?)
Regardless, the words you used were very creative and descriptive, which added to the emotion in the lyrics.
Not a very big review, I know, but I couldn't find anything wrong with this. Good work!

Happy writings! DNX :J
Laments of passion
Obstructed by fear.
Under guises of jovial chatter;
Incredulous hopes
Steadily feasting away-
Eating away at my heart.

Hey, Joanne!

Like the previous reviewer said, it's really moving. And that sense of love and care just ripples through through every line. A very sweet poem, indeed.

Thanks for sharing and keep the ink flowing!

It's not about the weight of what's spoken.
It's about being heard.

Grazie, grazie both of you~! This one actually has a tune to it, which makes it a lullaby. =)

"In my contact with people I find that, as a rule, it is only the little, narrow people who live for themselves, who never read good books, who do not travel, who never open up their souls in a way to permit them to come into contact with other souls -- with the great outside world."
— Booker T. Washington, Up From Slavery
