If you haven't already seen it, here's a post that you might find useful: Are you a new member? Read me! It basically goes through the basics of how YWS works, and is a pretty good starting point. YWS is a really great community for sharing your stories and making friends, so I'm sure you'll have a great time here.

You mentioned that you like writing short stories, is there a particular genre you're partial to writing? Or do you like to dabble?

Welcome to YWS. I hope you have a great time on here. It's an amazing site with lots and lots of amazing people.

Well, Sarah said quite a lot of useful stuff ~~she wasn't bragging or anything~~ and she's pretty awesome. You can always message her or even me if you need anything.

And yeah...

But everyone here can make it easy for you. Talk to people, discuss stuff and everything would be fine.

I usually use gifs in my welcomes but I'm too lazy at the moment (sorry) and @donizback seems to have beat me to it.
