Mix for mizz-iceberg

For a prize for winning one of my contests, Zehra (mizz-iceberg) won a fanmix. This mix is reminiscent of my early mixes—a two sided, 30 odd song compilation; it is somewhat chronologically sound. This is a mix for her story, Sentient II.

My mixes have undergone some upgrades. I’ve upgraded them in iTunes so that all the disc info is written into it. If there are any problems or you just want one or two songs, please tell me and I’ll do my best to fix/accommodate you.

Enjoy,
Cal.

1. the village green prevention society. the kinks.
we are the village green…

A song for the world, he left behind.

2. scalliwag. gaelic storm.
from the north from the south from the east from the west,
well the sky is our roof and the road is our rest.
no one to say 'yes', no one to say 'no'.
run free with the raggle-taggle gypsy oh!

A song for the life, he now embodies.

3. deep in the night. abigail washburn.
deep in the night
i hear the darkness
bones tell the body
rest in its arms
i hear the calling
of life's sweet embrace
resting too soon

deep in the night
i feel the stardust
blue tells the heavens
fall from the sky
i feel the shadows
of time's own longing
falling away

4. the plouescat races. gaelic storm.
[instrumental]

5. to be alone with you. sufjan stevens.
you gave your body to the lonely
they took your clothes
you gave up a wife and a family
you gave your ghost
to be alone with me

From the POV of the city, Sopta.

6. limit to your love. feist.
there's a limit to your love
like a waterfall in slow motion
like a map with no ocean
there's a limit to your love
your love, your love, your love.

there's a limit to your care
so carelessly there
is it truth or dare?
there's a limit to your care

7. resurrection fern. iron & wine.
like stubborn boys with big green eyes
we'll see everything
in the timid shade of the autumn leaves
and the buzzard's wing

and we'll undress beside the ashes of the fire
our tender bellies are wound around in baling wire
all the more a pair of underwater pearls
than the oak tree and its resurrection fern

A song for [MC].

8. where. lisbeth scott.
on this half lit day
with your crown beneath your wings
ev'ry word just echoes
and the empty world sings

where have you gone, my feather light heart?
i never imagined i could leave.

A song from the POV of the [MC].

9. hunter. portishead.
i stand on the edge of a broken sky
and i'm looking down, don't know why

A song from the POV of the [MC].

10. mowgli's road. marina & the diamonds.
oh lord, i have been told
that i must take the unforsaken road
there's a fork in the road, i'll do as i am told
and i don't know, don't know, don't know, don't, don't
who i want to be

A song from the POV of the [MC].

11. rain. patty griffin.
now i don't want to beg you baby
for something maybe you could never give
i'm not looking for the rest of your life
i just want another chance to live

strange how hard it rains now
rows and rows of big dark clouds

12. pretty bird. jenny lewis.
you go west for the black setting sun
you go south to the white spirit of earth
you go east for those real green eyes
you go for north, walk the good red road

pretty bird
there's a mirror in heaven
pretty bird, pretty bird
there's a window on earth

13. panic open string. calexico.
when the stars align, reminds me of you
words will lose their fear
and i will find their truth
church bells in the hills, they will ring and ring

it's where we'll go when we
leave this place and die

14. patterns (demo version). simon & garfunkel.
there are patterns i must follow
just as i must breathe each breath.
like a rat in a maze
the path before me lies

A song from the POV of the [MC].

15. you've gone my friend. new buffalo.
you board the ship
the water laps against the sides
reminds you of
when you were a child
you rowed the boat to mystery
and walked through trails
where all the trees
had faces
you wrapped your arms around
and felt the breeze
you've gone my friend
you've gone to start your life again

16. lion's jaws. neko case.
the night i fell into the lion’s jaws
to my regret and your delight

those teeth themselves could not divine
nor their pressure estimate
the haze i wished you’d never break
and to never contemplate

17. winter: allegro. antonio vivaldi.
[instrumental]

18. it don't matter to the sun. rosie thomas.
it don't matter to the sun if you go or if you stay.
no, the sun is gonna rise, gonna rise.
shine down on another day.
there will be tomorrow even if you choose to leave.
cause it don't matter to the sun, no, no.
it matters to me.

1. deeper well. the wailin' jennys.
i was ready for love i was ready for the money
ready for the blood and ready for the honey
ready for the winnin', ready for the bell
lookin' for the water from a deeper well
i found some love and i found some money
found that blood would drip from the honey
found i had a thirst that i could not quell
lookin' for the water from a deeper well

A song from the POV of the [MC].

2. vast. temptation.
i went in the desert
i went searching for the truth
i stumbled across you
and i know you're not the truth

i went in the ocean
i went looking for some love
all i found is that i found
i haven't found enough

can you save me from myself
they've been killing children
and nobody seems to care
they've been laughing at my god
my god, i wouldn't dare

3. song for the painter. lost in the trees.
this song is for the wanderer
who never came home again.
for all those with broken hearts,
i know what you’re going through.
i had a true love once
but now they’ve gone and left me blue.

[…]

let time heal my insides.

A song for the [MC].

4. winning a battle, losing the war. kings of convenience.
even though i'm not her minder,
even though she doesn't want me around,
i am on my feet to find her,
to make sure that she is safe and sound.
even though i'm not her minder,
even though she doesn't want me around,
i am on my feet to find her,
to make sure that she is safe from harm.

the sun sets on the war,
the day breaks and everything is new...

A song from the POV of the [MC] for the city, Sopta.

5. send angels. plumb.
he felt alone and aging unkind
he knew there was trouble with this war inside
so to feel young he did what he felt best
emptiness filling every vein
he must be going insane
to leave an entire world behind

everyone makes a mistake now and then

A song for the [MC].

13. song for the fireflies. josh ritter.
but june is like an echo
of the sounds we never made
i swear they find me in my waking hours
thirty days like poison flowers

the wind in your hair
like a sigh, like a sigh

we both know that it's been so long
i'm not sure what to say so i hope
fireflies remember to do exactly what it was they used to

14. long time traveller. the wailin' jennys.
ye fleeting charms of earth
farewell, your springs of joy are dry
my soul now seeks another home
a brighter world on high

i'm a long time travelling here below
i'm a long time travelling away from home
i'm a long time travelling here below
to lay this body down

farewell kind friends whose tender care
has long engaged my love
your fond embrace i now exchange
for better friends above

little darling
it seems like years since it's been here.

I'm a godmother, that's a great thing to be, a godmother. She calls me god for short, that's cute, I taught her that.

I always wondered about the lyrics to "Deeper Well."
