An Open YWS Storybook

Briefing: It has been two years after the Spammian Invasion and YWS is still recovering. It has been rebuilding the ships it has lost. Just as celebrations begin on YWS's third birthday, the SPEW Peregrine returns reporting the presence of an unknown race of warriors.

After a hasty conference, Nate announces that YWS needs volunteers to fight the alien menace.

Rules:

1. No Team Killing.

2. Keep it G. This is an open storybook so I want it open to all ages. Use alternatives like "Son of a biscuit," "Ah fudge," and so on.

3. Be flexible. The plot may change from moment. If it doesn't go the way you want, just adjust it.

4. Stay realistic. For instance, ships will eventually be able to outrun small fighters, they just have more power. However, fighters can change direction and speed more quickly than a lumbering ship.

5. Members of designated usergroups may claim ships of their technology types. You must be a member of the usergroup to claim it though.

6. Positions must be earned. We will be using the number of reviews to determine your rank. You may advance in rank by critiquing.

7. Don't be a glory hog. A glory hog is a guy who wins a battle completely without the assistance of another person. The idea is teamwork, so a teammate should be mentioned. If your piloting a fighter and you kill an enemy fighter, maybe he was avoiding a shot from your wingman. Share, don't hog, the glory.

8. Use proper grammar and punctuation. If we can't read your post, then we can't be held responsible for misunderstanding it.

Ship Information:

The amount of posts you have determines the ships you can control. If you want to be exempted, the you may ask for one. I will consider exemptions based on the standing on the site as well as your activity. Nate, for instance, wouldn't qualify for a Carrier normally, but because he is responsible for all of YWS, he would be exempted, along with all other admins.

Admin: Carriers/Battleships.

Everyone else:

For Fighters:
5 Reviews = 1 Star
25 Reviews = 2 Stars
75 Reviews = 3 Stars
150 Reviews = 4 Stars
250 Reviews = 5 Stars (Super Fighter)

For Capital Ships:
350 Reviews = 1 Blue Star, 4 Yellow Stars (Frigates)
450 Reviews = 2 Blue Stars, 3 Yellow Stars (Destroyer)
550 Reviews = 3 Blue Stars, 2 Yellow Stars (Cruiser)
650 Reviews = 4 Blue Stars, 1 Yellow Stars (Battle Cruiser)
750 Reviews = 5 Blue Stars (Light Carrier)
And so on and so forth

For Battleships/Carriers:
850 Reviews = 1 Red Star, 4 Blue Stars
950 Reviews = 2 Red Stars, 3 Blue Stars
And so on and so forth

A quick overview of ships.

Carriers: Carry an entire wing of spacecraft. Each wing has six squadrons.
Battleships: Are very large ships with thick armor and powerful weaponry.
Light Carriers: Able to carry a squadron. Good defensive weaponry.
Battle-Cruisers: Thicker armor and more powerful weaponry, advanced cruiser.
Cruisers: Medium-Big ships with better acceleration, good weaponry and armor.
Destroyer: Medium ships with good armor and light weaponry.
Frigate: Small ship with good armor and light weaponry (used as an anti-fighter.)

A quick overview of space craft.

Fighters: Fast moving anti-spacecraft unit. Destroys enemy fighters and torpedo bombers.
Torpedo Bombers: Slow moving anti-ship unit. Carries a crew of six, a pilot, a bombardier, and four gunners. Very much like the B-17 of old.
Shuttle: For moving supplies, troops, etc.
Attack Shells: Fired from missile bays towards an enemy ship. Each shell carries a boarding party of soldiers.

Designations:

SPEW: Belongs to SPEW Fleet. Ships tend to be more advanced technologically. Expect to see limited amounts of advanced weaponry and shielding. You must be a member of the SPEW usergroup to use them.

DFA: DFA tends to specialize in aerial combat. So they have more advanced fighters. You must be in DFA to use them.

CCF: Belongs to the CCF Fleet. CCF ships tend to have a larger amount of conventional weaponry, allowing them to fight a larger array of targets. You must be a member of the CCF Usergroup to use them.

YWS: Belongs to the YWS Fleet. Average armor and weapons, but with much more room for spacecraft. These will pack a wallop in groups. This is open to all YWS members.

TSR: Old TSR ship. These will have poor armor and firepower, used mostly as convoy escorts. Brought out of the mothballs to help give us some extra firepower. Open to all YWS members.

TW: Belongs to the TW fleet. Good armor but poor weaponry. Not sure if we'll see any of these. You must be a member (former or current) of the Teenage Writers Site to use these.

CTG: Belongs to the Conquerers: Excellent armor and short range weaponry.

EDIT: Hunter is now in control of a Light Carrier, with a squadron of fighters. He still holds his original rank. This is given on condition that he begins reviewing more, so as to earn the other three stars. He must earn more stars before he is able to command a cruiser or above, with the exception permitted above.

I almost forgot, we have an enemy! Here is some info on the Conquerers.

The Conquerers resemble ancient Sparta in terms of society. There is a warrior class and a slave class. If you grow old as a warrior, you become an elder. In order to support their growing population, the Conquerers must gain more slaves to do the peasant work. The warriors have been trained since birth to fight. In order to advance as a warrior you must capture slaves and win in battle.

In terms of strategy, they prefer attacking from all directions and converging in on their enemy. If you only look in one direction, you'll end up getting hit from that direction and two others you weren't looking at.

They will take prisoners and turn them into slaves.

The Conquerers maintain a sizable marine force. They will often launch these warriors in assault pods. When they attack, they will launch assault pods through hyperspace, along with some fighters. The pods will then move towards their respective targets. They attack onto a ship and once inside, the warriors will try to take over the ship, or disable it. After internal conflict has begun, then their warships will jump in to attack. The hope is that they will be attacking a disorganized and weakened opponent, ending the fight quickly and with low casualties.

Elite warriors are few, but those that survive to become them are very powerful and smart. Lesser warriors are often assigned less meaningful duties, like slave guarding and small targets. Younger warriors are assigned to veteran outfits as apprentices.

Their fighters aren't very advanced, since their command sees them as a nuisance, like a gnat. They do have talented pilots, but they don't receive much in the way of glory.

Their warships are large and bulky. They usually carry the large marine forces. They will often have attack shells all over their hull. Their weaponry is strong, but survivable on the first attack. They prefer to disable ships and take their crews prisoner than to destroy them all. This idea is reflected in their ship design.

Important Info: Hardworking, imaginative and loyal.

Bio: A short member at 5’4’’ he is not physically the strongest of DFA. He prefers to use his mind rather than his muscles but, due to the physical fitness needed for life in space, he is not a weakling.

The act of maintaining a Light Carrier almost single-handedly means he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the ship’s workings, and his endless yearning for knowledge has prompted him to begin learning about the navigation system.

Despite this, he is a pedant for protocol and a perfectionist which has lead to his constant alterations on the ship. He can usually be relied upon to make textbook decisions, but under pressure he is quick to lose his cool and concentration. He likes to have time to carefully plan and execute manoeuvres and so Hunter has understandably kept him out of the flying squadron.

DarkLight likes to be on good terms with the rest of the crew but, if he is disturbed whilst working or deep in thought, he is likely to get grumpy and very irritable.
He is utterly loyal to Dono and DFA.

Ship Info: The SPEW Gryphon II is run almost entirely by AI controlled robots, making Grif the only crew. He has a large cargo hold, good for holding refugee's and other supplies. The Gryphon II has a strong hull, excellent shields, and triple the power output of a normal ship.

The reason for this increase in power is for the Hypervelocity Cannon mounted on the nose of the Gryphon II. It fires kinetic slugs at over .4 the speed of light. This takes quite a lot of energy, but the effect is very impressive. It also features an array of conventional weapons, including missiles banks, beam lasers, and point defense turrets.

Bio: Grif is a veteran of YWS. His previous ship, the SPEW Gryphon, was destroyed during the Spammian invasion. Creative and perceptive, he is able to see what happens before it does, allowing him to react faster.

Bio: Adelaide is a ship board AI developed by SPEW. She runs around YWS, usually maintaining the site. A smart AI, she is able to learn, adapt, and think. Secretive and playful, she is the most powerful AI on YWS.

Important Info: The Highwind is classified as a Destroyer type vessel due to its size and speed. It has various weapon ports, but they pack a limited amount of energy. It has two medium powered beam cannons and the Omega Cannon created from the CCF tech labs.

Bio: Snoink, tired of studying, has made it a passion to write some rather... um... interesting things. One such writing has to do with demonic swans and beings named "The Conquerors." She is convinced that the conquerors, in this alternate dimension, have come to life, and this freaks her out because the conquerors are characters in her story that can actually destroy the universe. She is currently researching whether this is the case, and she is sincerely hoping that the authors' stories have NOT suddenly come to life, like she is afraid they have.

-Important Info: The DFA is a Commando Task Force sanctioned by the highest link in the Chain of Command of the YWS Fleet. It is not a fleet in an of itself, but a team that operates independently of the main fleet. Oddly enough, it has also been seen in battles alongside SPEW and the CCF, in addition to the YWS Main Fleet. All fighters and bombers, as well as their pilots, are very highly regarded. Each pilot has a customized fighter or bomber with above average technology for its class.
Strengths: Tactical Superiority, Intricate web of contacts spanning all fleets, excellent pilot.
Weaknesses: Emotional, reluctant to take chances. Severe Anxiety when he is not in control of a situation.
Bio: Made a name for himself as a hotshot dog-fighter early in the days of the YWS Fleet. Promoted quickly through the ranks--co-founded the original SPEW fleet before it was disbanded. Currently leader of the DFA, whose origins are unknown to all but the High Brass of the YWS Fleet.

Ship/Plane/Fighter: I own the purple fighter on the Highwind. (Yes, I painted it purple when Adam wasn't looking.

Important Info: Alzz and I share a mind link, so we can talk telapathically. I also have a solid diamond sword, but that probably won't be too necessary at the moment.

Bio: Bells joined Adam's crew back before Alzz and Rick so kindly blew up the YWS Pensword. Adam made a new, better ship, the Highwind, where Bells now has her own fighter, and is quite happy. She likes to sneak around the Highwind, invisibly of course, and spy on Adam while he conducts his secret experiments...but he doesn't know that yet.
