Honestly, I know very, very little about Pokemon since I have only done Pokemon Go very casually for like a year (but not really because I go long stretches forgetting all about it haha) -- but I think the aquatic ones are really cute (we're all very surprised) and Drillbur and Machamp and Hariyama are my go-to for battles

Haha. I downloaded it when the whole hype was over and thought I could get now every gym, but there are still a lot of people playing it.
And types: There are 18 types which all have their + and -. Like obvious ones.
Water is effective against Fire Fire is effective against Grass Flying is effective against Bug Electric is effective against Flying Electic has no effect on Ground, etc...
Most types are easy to understand. Some others are trickier, like:
Psychic is effective against Fighting (Brain vs Muscle), Poison (Brain heals Poisoning). Fighting is effective against Steel and Rock (Muscles can break that), but not against Flying (try to punch a flying bird, etc...)
