WELCOME TO GATISS, THE CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD.
It’s mainly a rumour amongst the humans- every year, part of the city’s budget is sequestered away to the ‘Phoenix Fund’, and the urban legends say that this is a bribe to stop vampires killing the children of Gatiss.
And for the most part, they’re right.

They’re right, Gatiss is a city teeming with the undead, vampires and werewolves for the main part, but even among them there are rumours of banshees and witches. Phoenix Foster, a thousand year old warlock, has a deal with the mayor. The money he is allotted gives the vampires an allowance from the blood bank, green fields rented to the werewolves at full moon and lots of raw meat. In return, Phoenix ensures there are no human deaths.

No human deaths. Because that doesn’t make it a safe place for the supernaturals, with gangs and turf wars and two sides on every issue.

Then there are the vampire mates. One person out of a million has the ability to bear a vampire child. And that’s where Louise, a law student in Gatiss College, comes in. Because she’s just been cornered down an alley way by a werewolf, saved by a vampire called Sarah, and sent spiralling into a whole new world.

THE PLOT
Spoiler
Louise is a newly discovered vampire mate who is discovered one night by a werewolf and then has her life saved by a vampire. Pretty soon the fights begin to happen- the werewolf packs want her gone, and each vampire clan want her for herself since the vampire she is “for” has not been discovered yet. The coven that currently has her is run by a very compassionate and kind vampire called Melissa who understands Louise’s reluctance and is keen to keep her safe.

But as tempers run short, Louise’s presence in House Melissa becomes a liability. Some vampires will side with Melissa to keep Louise safe, others against her to take Louise for their own. The werewolves will stop at nothing to kill her. Phoenix and his human allies will also do everything in their power to protect Louise- but this could prove a hindrance rather than a help. The other supernaturals in the city will take sides too depending on their personal alliances and motives.

THE WORLD
Spoiler
Vampires- survive only on human blood, but blood from the blood bank will do just fine. Can be driven feral by bloodlust if not properly fed. Can be born but also made. That is, the offspring of a vampire and a vampire mate will be a vampire, but they can also be made by ingesting vampire blood. However, born vampires are much stronger, much healthier beings, those that are made only have a 10% chance of surviving over a month- especially as a rogue vampire can be dealt the death penalty on the spot. A vampire child will be raised with safe habits- plus just like humans, the majority of vampires want children, hence the importance. Vampires can go out in the sunlight in a hat and gloves, long sleeves, sunglasses and SPF365 on a dull day. They don’t go on fire in sunlight, but their skin begins to blister with second-degree burns upon immediate contact with UV radiation if they’re not careful. They are immortal but can be killed by a wooden stake to the heart or a beheading or fire.

Vampire Mates- Normal humans with a genetic predisposition (just ignore science) that makes them a) able to bear vampire offspring and b) discoverable by scent. The existence of a vampire mate is cause for everything but a romance. The werewolves want them all dead, the vampires needless to say want them all alive. Each mate is destined for one particular vampire- but while the vampire will have a pathological need to protect them there need not be any love on either side. It’s more like stalking, really.

Werewolves- Turn at the full moon, it’s a painful process but older ones are so used to it that they can usually turn at will. They don’t have a long life expectancy though, there tends to be a lot of silver knife crime between warring packs. Silver and beheading will do it for a werewolf. They heal quickly from other wounds but other than that, a love of red meat and some hirsutism, they’re generally pretty human.

Whitelighters- A Whitelighter is a former human who, because he/she was very kind when he/she lived, has been given another chance and therefore come back from the dead. They are basically guardian angels (but without the wings) who protect one person, or occupationally a small group of people, with their lives. To be able to do this they have a type of sixth sense that enables them to always sense where the person they're protecting is and how that person is feeling, both mentally and physically. They also have the power to heal any wound and to teleport. They are quite harmless, but if you want to kill one anyway the only way to do so would be with dark magic, which works like a poison on them. Since their bodies actually consists of small orbs of white light (hence the name) they are tough to kill without magic, but can easily be knocked unconscious. A Whitelighter is no stronger than an average human when it comes to physical strength. They have no need for food or sleep, and see it more like a luxury.

Phoenixes-Phoenixes, as a race, have been around since the Egyptian times, however, their numbers have never exceeded twelve. There are two families, Ur-Hashan from Tyre, Lebanon, and the Ramses from Heliopolis, Egypt, who still survive to this day. Part of the former moved to Greece during the expansion of the Phoenicians and stayed there for several centuries. Herodotus, who couldn't resist describing the mythical race, did so in one of his books, and again Ovid, having met the family founder, in his Metamorphosis, from which we have a good deal of information.

The Ramses family stayed in Egypt for the most part, though they, as is in their nature, couldn't resist traveling across the globe. Yes, like the Egyptian royal family. Precisely like that. They were worshiped as gods in their time, and have always been the prouder of the two families.

As of now both families are scattered across the globe. There are a couple in the Americas, one in Dubai, multiple scattered across Europe, one in North Africa somewhere, even one in Japan, and of course in Gatiss.

As mentioned, phoenixes have a natural lifespan of five hundred years, after which they die consumed in ashes and are reborn some time later, ready to live again. They can be killed by any means. If they die a violent death, they can still be reborn after a set amount of years. They possess both a bird form and a human avatar. As bird, they have a wingspan of four meters and are two meters in length, with a red body, golden wing-tips and a blue tail. They retain arab features as human, though their skin bleaches or tans depending on the climate. They all have golden-yellow eyes, and some have blue or fiery red hair. Their vision is sharper than a human's. Other than that, they are indistinguishable from humans (in human form, of course).

Witches- Witches are humans that have the ability to perform magic when certain resources are allowed to them- potions, talismans and magical artefacts. They cannot perform magic without these things. However, unlike warlocks, they do not become addicted to magic so easily. They are human and can die any human death.

Warlocks- Warlocks are the "Children of Lillith", born with slightly unhuman features but overall not that different to a human. They are however immortal, and can perform magic without assistance. Magic is dangerously addictive to warlocks however, so must are unwilling to use it unless absolutely necessary. They're also of a rather lackadaisacal disposition anyway.

Sirens- Humans born with a genetic abnormality, sirens are shapeshifters that can turn into nightingales, and in human form have cats-eyes. They possess unnatural abilities of persuasion and charisma. Other than that, however, they are completely human- or even subhuman, with very weak immune systems and susceptibility to disease.

Night Hunters-Night Hunters are a band of hunters that do jobs for clients that request there assistance of the Night Hunters, the current leader of the Night Hunters is a single hunter known as Reyla Barron who dispatch's hunters on request once a contract has been reached between Reyla and the client(s) for a certain amount of money. The team of hunters that is sent out it's weaknesses and strengths and weaknesses will be based on what the job calls for. Night Hunters will not response to missions that regard to delivery of an item or message to a certain place or person, unlawful murder of paranormals, unlawful murder of humans, escort missions that do not have solid proof of threats from the paranormal, and other missions so on and so forth.

Night Hunters does not discriminate against clients based on Race, Age, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Nationality, or other such things.

Assassination missions may only be contracted based on evidence and threats and a release from government officials that issue an official statement that evidence has been provided and simply chasing off and or guarding will not deter hostiles from attacking clients. The signed slip of paper must be signed by the mayor himself before an assassination mission is carried out, once the mission has been carried out, the client must pay the Head Hunter Reyla Barron the amount of money agreed upon.

The weapons each Night Hunter uses will be based on there weapon of preferance, each weapon will have been made out of Silver, ballistic knives blades will have been made out of wood and packed with small amount of C4 that will be strong enough to tear a vampires chest apart. Each gun will have a blade made of silver on either the barrel or stock of the gun the only exception to this is a Sniper Rifle, that used on such a weapon will cause serious injury to the Hunter.

In the case that seventy-two hours is to go by and a Night Hunter team has failed to report in there mission, a second scouting team shall be sent out to assess the situation determine if the previous team was captured or killed. If they had been captured, the scout team is to retreat and report in the situation and how many in numbers are the hostiles. From there, it will be determined by Reyla Barron whether or not the first team can be rescued, once a decision has been made Reyla will instruct what is to happen next from that point.

THE RULES
Spoiler
1. No god-modding.
2. Nothing R-rated.
3. I expect at least two paragraphs in every post. I also don’t want a single conversation spread out over fifteen posts. If you’re not sure how someone else’s character would act, ask for their help in writing the post or co-write it in a WFP.
4. Good grammar essential.
5. In the end, I’m the owner of the SB, and what I say goes. I’m not a villain, I’ll take what you have to say into account.
6. All profiles should be cleared with me.
7. No OOC posts in the thread. You can claim a spot for your profile, but I expect all other OOC posts to be directed to the DT.
8. The mate plot is really not an excuse for a magical vamphuman romance. Seriously. So don’t try it. Romance is allowed, but not between vampire and mate just “because.”

Male werewolf please :D

Name: Dante Xiv

Race: Werewolf

Age: 135

Appearance:

As a werewolf:

Spoiler
Image

As a human:

Spoiler
Image

Alliance: Rogue.

Personality: He's usually nice, at least as human. He's always violent as a werewolf. While he gets along with people easily, he usually tries not to get himself too acquainted with anyone. You can be having a nice time with him one day, and he'll be gone the next.

He also hates to hurt people, and because of this, he usually keeps to himself. This is a weakness of his because he has a hard time believing someone is a bad person, so getting him to fight for a cause is quite difficult.

History: He grew up with werewolves, so he's not uncommon with his ancestry in anyway. While more and more of his comrades began to disappear as he grew older, he became more and more reserved. He was met not too long after leaving his pack by a man who he refers to as Peter. They became close friends very easily, as Peter was always happy and Dante loved to see people happy. While Dante always knew there was something strange about Peter, like the fact he hasn't aged a day since they met over a decade ago, he could never quite put his finger on what it was.

Now as an older wolf, he lives on his own. He isn't held back by alliances of any sort, and would easily turn on other wolves to help vampires. That being said, he still wants to see Louise dead.

Because of his age, he can control his transformations to some degree. He can turn at will, but only during the night-time; And he still has no control over himself turning at a full moon. He's been trying for years to resist, but it proved to be useless.

Other: Always carries a wooden stake or two on him.

Spoiler
(This is a character from a long running RP I'm in- if anything in his profile doesn't work Stella just Pm me and I will gladly work something out. :3 )

Name: Altair Sirius Elafson
Race: Born Vampire (Father was a vampire mother was a Fay vampires mate.)
Age: Few hundred years old. but doesn't act it.

Appearance: Altair is rather normal looking- meaning he looks more human then other vampires. His skin isn't unnaturally pale- it has a healthy look to it and he has his mothers rosy cheeks. His hair is darkish and he keeps it in a rather old fashioned cut. his eyes are deep soft brown- the kind of deep brown a forest has in fall where everything is bright, clear and crisp. As Altair is wheelchair bound he doesn't "stand" tall but if he were to he'd be close to 6'6". His upper body is very strong and toned because of the constant wheeling and his hands are rough and calloused.
Spoiler
Image

Alliance: None at the moment- he's just arrived in the city and has never been in a coven before.
Personality: Altair in a word is steady. He's probably the most well grounded level headed vampire you'll probably come ever meet. Like all individuals no matter their race he has his quirks and issues but he's very good at simply dealing with things in a healthy manner. He's a light hearted man who lives every moment like it's his last- he appreciates the little things. He has a strict moral code by which he lives- he refuses to drink from a person directly- for his parents that form of feeding was an act of trust and love, so Altair believes that's how feeding should be- with the person you love. He is very human in his personal beliefs and behaviors- he was raised in a human village where his mothers family lived- he never met vampires outside his own family until he was well into his adult years and by that time his temperament was set.
Weaknesses: Being wheelchair-bound aside- Altair has his share of personality flaws. He is ungodly proud and refuses help, even when he needs it- woe befall any who touch the handles of his wheelchair and try to push him. He's got a fiery temper, but thankfully he's got a long fuse. He's still very innocent as to the ways of other vampires- as was state above, he was raised as a human in an odd family so he doesn't really have the same set list of acceptable and taboo things for a "normal" vampire.
Strengths: Altair is a born hero, even as a child he always had the warriors mindset -honor, chivalry, a strong sense of right and wrong. He often pretended his wheelchair was a horse and he a knight- he's kept that mentality on into his adult life. He's often thrown himself in harms way to save someone else- whether he knows them or not. He's got a doggedly tenacious streak that comes from his mother and once Altair sets his mind to doing a thing he does that thing come hell or high water.

History: Unlike most vampires Altair was born outside the confines of a coven. His rather was a homeless vampire who stumbled upon his mother. She was of Fairy blood and a Vampire mate- but she was also a shape shifter. Their firstborn son was not a vampire but a shifter like his mother, he wasn't a true werewolf, but he had a wolfs form. Altair was their second born child and was the vampire like his father. When he was born there was a deformity in his legs that threatened to kill him and to save his life his parents had his legs amputated at the knee and to keep them from trying to heal themselves the doctor cauterized the stumps. So from birth on he never had legs below the knee and never learned to miss them. He used a variety of wheelchairs over the years- always trying to build or find the perfect one. He grew up in the village of his mother- living as human a lifestyle as he could. He apprenticed to a silversmith and set up comfortably for a while but he was born with itchy "feet" and soon left the village of his birth and traveled- he never let his disability slow him down and figured out ways to overcome nearly every challenge set before him. Over the years as silver smithing became somewhat of an antiquated craft he dabbled in watchmaking, clocks- anything with moving parts. but as usual his itchy feet kept him moving around, He has only recently arrived in the city, and is just beginning to dip his feet into the underground of the city.

Other: Altair strangely enough is diurnal- and actually relishes sunlight. Because of his mother's fairy blood sunlight doesn't affect him like normal vampires- he can sunburn- but only like any normal creature, BUT his sunburns take MUCH longer to heal. Altair loves music and has a guitar he takes everywhere. Oddly enough he's a devout Catholic (like his mother) and wears a small silver and jet rosary about his neck at all times.
Altair is straight as a poker and quite up for finding his "Lady Fair". he's the kind of guy that would be a passionate and devoted lover, he' really does carry his heart in his hands and it just waiting to give it away.

(if you haven't already, please check the DT and direct all OOC queries there, and check in for notifs!)

Name: Sarah Vaudeville

Race: Vampire

Age: Actual- 504, Physical- 24

Appearance: She retains the whole "Vampires are attractive" cliché, but also several other clichés, such as "cold as ice" and "Snow White." Black hair, blue eyes, pale skin and excellent cheekbones. Sarah is also in excellent shape, not just imbibed with vampire strength, but also a very lean and muscular body.

Spoiler
Image

Alliance: House Melissa

Personality: Sarah is cold, self-centred, rude and heartless, and she plans on staying that way. She has been ruthless in the past and were it not for Melissa's control, she could kill everybody in Gatiss without blinking. But beneath the outer shell, Sarah does show a surprising amount of kindness which she herself ignores but doesn't go unnoticed by those around her.

She is also extremely loyal to Melissa, in a sort of unquestionable and almost servile way, because Melissa is the one who rescued her from the brink (but more on that later). This isn't to say she isn't difficult to deal with within the coven, because she is. Or that she doesn't disagree and shout and gulder at Melissa. Because she does. But when Melissa really needs something done, Sarah will do it.

She really lacks social graces, she's very blunt and says whatever comes into her head. Her sense of humour is, naturally, sarcastic. And she has a blood problem. She struggles for control, needs to drink regularly, and she finds the laws in Gatiss difficult to handle. But the penalty for taking human blood is death- and though she hates her life, Sarah likes living it too much to risk losing it.

History: Born in France as a peasant in a peasant life in a peasant town destined to marry a peasant and have peasant children. Until one day a rich man rolled into town, took a liking to Sarah and after spending a week of debauchery and drinking her blood, he let her drink his. Then he kissed her hand, said they would meet again soon and snapped her neck.

She never saw him again. Confused and delirious when she woke up, Sarah went home and found her sister, nieces and nephews. And killed all of them. The remorse just about killed her. Except that it didn't- the taste for blood was too strong.

Sarah became feral. She lived in the woods, preyed on the weak and the lonely and the lost. Centuries became a blur of running through Europe, to Russia, to Italy, to Poland, to Spain, killing and drinking and thinking of nothing else until one day some man caught her for his circus act- a freak show travelling to the New World. He kept her in a cage that she could not escape, fed her animal carcasses that were no good to her. She was starving when he let her out, and she killed him, then the rest of the freaks.

Time in America passed and Sarah began to become more aware. She had missed the world changing, had missed so much. And then she met Melissa. The coven just starting out, a group of misfits under the rule of a matriarch who wanted to look after the less fortunate. Sarah was counted among that number.

For a long time she struggled in the coven, but Melissa taught her what it was like to be human again. Sarah realised she missed humanity, but it wasn't easy to regain it. At least a dozen times Melissa managed to help Sarah out of sticky situations with Phoenix and the town council, but after sixty years it seemed she was a lost cause-

until Liam came along. Sarah's mate. All those memories of those she killed came pouring back to her, her sister's five little children. And Sarah had an idea- what if she could give back the children that were lost?

Humans only like humans though. And Melissa told Sarah that if she hoped to have Liam on her side, then she'd have to try harder at this humanity thing. And Sarah's been trying.

Oh, she's been trying.

Other: Well a bit more on Liam- a quiet-ish Physics student at Gatiss College. Sarah's never met him. But she tends to hang around campus or his home in his spare time and watch to make sure that nobody is coming close to him. As far as Sarah is concerned, he is her property. And they will be together. He just doesn't know it yet. She's kind of a creep.

Name: Emilie Ann Greene
Race: Vampire (made not born)
Age: Appears 19, actually 103
Appearance: 5'8" with a slight but curvy figure. She has long, jet black hair down to her waist and icy blue eyes. Emilie has slightly angular facial features. She usually wears stilletos and dresses, which are always floor-length. She always wears gloves and hats to cover her hands, arms and face. She always wears a silver locket and dark red lipstick. She has a pale complexion.
Alliance: Vampires, Malissa's coven/clan/whatever it's called
Personality: Emilie is fiercely independant and tries not to get attached to anyone. She has a good sense of humor and makes everything a joke (sometimes to hide the pain its causing her). She does not trust anyone and is always on her gaurd. She is inteligent and very street-smart. She can sometimes seem standoffish and antisocial. While she has no problem killing, she does not kill people for blood. She steals from the bloodbank (usually).
History: Emilie was born out in the country with her parents and sister. When she was fifteen, she came home to find her family ead, their throats ripped open and their bodies bloodless, their killer, a rogue vampire, standing next to them. She tried to run but she was too slow. Instead of killing her, he decided to do something that at the time seemed like something even worse- he turned her into oe of his kind. He left her to die or go ferral in an alley. That's where a member of the House of Mellissa found her and brought her there. He vouched for her an convinced the others that she was good and not to kill her. Ever since she has been loyal to the House of Mellissa and helps others who are nw to the house.
Other: She has a million weapons on her at a time. She has anywhere up to 10 blades in her hair at one time, in hairclips and boby pins, as well as the chopstick hair things. She hides others in her acessories and in her dresses. Her stillettos also double as weapons. She keeps these just in case the vampire that turned her comes back so that she can have her revenge.

Name: Seth VI. Really has no surname. At the registry office he's Seth Ramsay. Because why not.

Race: phoenix

Age: Technically close to 3000, about 100 years into his current lifespan. Looks to be in his early thirties, maybe? It's hard to tell.

Appearance: Seth is an elegant man. He's always liked to look easy on the eyes, and has always been well-dressed and mild-mannered. His skin is flawless and retains the golden-brown coloring of the mid-east of millennia ago. His eyes are yellow, pupils small and lashes long. His hair is shoulder-length, red-blond, with a long strip of iridescent blue on his left. He's about 1'76m and fit physically. He makes sure he jogs whenever he can, or at least walks around. Being a phoenix, his appearance changes ever so slightly as the day passes. During the hours of dawn, his skin visibly glows, and the minuscule imperfections a critical eye might spot are erased. As the sun fades, the inverse effect is applied. At night, more wrinkles around his eyes can be seen, and his movement becomes less easy. He wears dark suits with white shirts and gloves when he works, but usually does away with the suit and wears khakis when he isn't working. The gloves stay, as does the general aura of cat-like grace that surrounds him. In his phoenix form, he has a wingspan of around four meters and a length of around two. His feathers shine in the sunlight, and are a vivid red on the body and the wings, however, the tips are gold. His tail has blue feathers. The neck is similar to a swan’s, long and curved, the beak, also golden, wickedly sharp. The talons are four-fingered and also topped by cruel nails, always polished dangerously.

Alliance: himself (and all those employed under him of course), and very loosely House Melissa.

Personality: Seth is a chivalrous person. He is always very polite, perhaps even stiffly so. He treats everyone courteously, and quite likes being treated the same way by others. Seth's fiercely in favor of humane rights, which he believes should be held in consideration at all times. Seth believes in morality and what is good for a person. He participates in rallies and manifestations whenever he can and such too. Naturally, this reflects on his employees and job. However, this should not be mistaken for indulgence or an excuse to slack. Seth has a very keen mind, honed throughout the ages. Once again, respect him, he'll respect you. He becomes rather distraught when he feels this code of his is violated unwillingly, or if the offender did actually not mean any offense. But despite the initial appearance, Seth is a daring and adventurous person, which he's tried to couple with his job as best he can (he’s had surprising amounts of success at times). As is in the nature of all phoenixes, the spirit of adventure is strong in him, which has occasionally led Seth down risky and unwise paths. It sometimes causes him to take action without careful consideration, doubly so when a life is at stake. He’s tried drinking before (he’s still partial to some fine champagne or Italian red wine from time to time) but prefers milk, has tried smoking and still does smoke the pipe, and has even done drugs in the past (he stays far, far away from those now). Among his interests is fine food (in his travels he likes to experiment with exotic and potentially dangerous cuisine), music (noir jazz is lovely), chess (his tactics are rather… aggressive ones), skydiving, kayaking, and is rather knowledgeable when it comes to military tactics. He even spoke to Sun Tzu once, and has an original copy of the Art of War somewhere. He owns a lot of rare and ancient books, guarded from the effects of time by the magic of warlocks.

History: Seth is part of the line of the Egyptian pharaohs, being vaguely related to Ramses II, though he is, like the other eleven, a pureblood phoenix. He stayed in Egypt for a time, but moved to Italy when Rome conquered it. From there, he travelled the Mediterranean zone extensively. Around 1000aC, he was back in Italy, and joined the Crusades. In 1200aC, he was a powerful banker for the Knights Templar. When Pope Clemence forced the disbandment of the order, to avoid a premature death, he fled to Malta, where a small group of surviving Templars remained. He then quickly moved to modern Turkey and laid low there with a cousin for a while. He was in France during the revolution, and in Germany in 1700aC, where he was again, a banker for the Bavarian Illuminati. In 1756aC he was arrested for treason against the German government and imprisoned for a decade or so. When he was forgotten, he was quick to break free, though not without several scars. During the first half of the First World War, he was caught in a raid and died, his first and only death (via violent causes – he’s died about six times now due to advanced age) so far. He was reborn some time near the end, and prospered in the brief truce after. Seth had been living in Germany for a while after, monitoring the activity of mythological creatures, sensing rising tension, and during WW2, served under Hitler as a prominent lord and banker. He took no part in the massacre of the enemies, but couldn’t do anything because he was unsure what to do. That was the most traumatic part of his life, and its shadow still hasn’t left him. After that, he moved to America, and tried to loose himself in alcohol and drugs. When he died (and it did not take him very long I assure you), and came back, he stopped to think, and seriously reconsidered his life and what he had been doing up to that moment. He decided he wanted to do something good in the world, and help the creatures that were oppressed or simply in need of aid. And in Seth’s case, that translated to founding Phoinikos, one of the world’s most successful banks to date, though seriously crippled by the economic crisis the world has been experiencing. However, its true assets lie in the aid of mythological creatures. Unlike other banks, Phoinikos is willing to ah, overlook certain background details their clients of the supernatural inclination might have, thus giving them safe credit, without the fear of questions being asked. Its headquarters are in the city of Gatiss, but it has contacts throughout the entire world. Seth met House Melissa there, as he has met pretty much everyone and every organization of renown across the globe. Indeed, Melissa herself is employed under Phoinikos. He’s also had the chance to speak to Louise before things blew up.

Other: Seth has, like all phoenixes, an irrational fear of any type of reptiles. He also HATES pigeons. Spikes and poisoned lime hatred. He is a phoenix. Those mangy flying rats are a disgrace to his race. Also, they pooped all over his Maserati Spyder once. Seth has a penchant for fancy cars. It’s a vice. He can’t help it. But man, the pigeons! Like all phoenixes he has very good vision, and thus is constantly moaning about the pigeons everywhere. The fact he lives in a swanky apartment in the rich districts of Gatiss, commanding an imposing view, doesn’t help. Few dare venture there, however because of the sheer quantity of incense he burns. Seth is addicted to that stuff, always has been. He visits church regularly because of it, but also because he knows Christianity holds phoenixes sacred, and respects that. He feels it’s the least he can do. However, he doesn't take off his sunglasses. He never does, actually. It’s a small deception he enjoys.

Appearance:Physically fit and tall though his body is scarred from his human life, including missing his left pinky and ring finger.

Alliance: House of Melissa, though he’s hardly one to be relied upon.

Personality: Rude and condescending to almost everyone – his superiors excluded – though he can be charming if he needs, finding that the accent and a few words in French do most of the work for him. He has always held a belief that most situations can be solved with no small amount of murder, occasionally with a bit of torture thrown in – he offers no defence of this attitude as he refuses to grow out of the 18th century. He no longer cares overly much about gaining power or any kind of goal beyond amusing himself and is more than a little resentful of the ‘truce’ in Gatiss as it took one away one of his main sources of entertainment – tormenting plebs.

History: A French Noble he survived the revolution same way many of his ilk did – by serving in the new Republic’s army. He served in Italy, leading a notoriously ruthless cavalry unit under General Bonaparte – receiving a medal personally from the general. He continued to serve under Napoleon throughout his campaigns until in the retreat from Russia he was caught by canister shot from a cannon and left for dead in the snow by his comrades. Someone else found him however, a Vampire following the army seeking to build a coven from dying soldiers – feeling they would be loyal to him for giving him life. He guessed wrong, after he had a feeling for his new powers Henri broke the Vampire’s spine and left him in a collapsed mine. Duroc and the other French converts returned to their country and lived a life of decadence and excess. Over time all but Duroc were killed by vengeful peasants or Duroc himself. Finally tiring of life in France Henri fled to America during the Great War and has lived there ever since, living much the same lifestyle as he did in France, if slightly more restrained before he joined the House of Melissa – out of boredom more than anything else. In that time he has been disciplined by Melissa for going over the top in regards to his feeding on several occasions. Nowadays he often leaves the house with little or no explanation for varying periods of time, much to Melissa’s annoyance.

Other: An expert fencer even before his turning, Henri has had a lot of time to perfect his technique. He still keeps his Colonel’s uniform in good conditions and wears it on occasion whenever he feels nostalgic.
