Best Article of 2012?

Some of us, being writers, will read the papers. The stories of every day bring inspiration in all forms, even when you're simply delving into the regional. They also bring bias, craziness, love and strong opinions; letters, polls and statistics.

My question to you is, what was your favourite article of 2012? Or were there any stories that stood out to you? What made you follow the news?

I don't know about being best, but it certainly was entertaining seeing Pankaj Mishra defend the ( newbie) Nobel Laureate Mo Yan, as to why he should not be called a "Patsy" of the Chinese workers party.
