'Lo there.

Never done this before. But I thought, what the heck, Self, might as well give it a go.

So this is me, LadyLazarus, giving it a go.

My favorite poet is Sylvia Plath, with whom I identify enormously. But I'm not a poet-- I'm strictly a prose person. I've been writing since year 5 and though I've never published and completed only 1 novel, I'm content with it.

Also, I read, A LOT. Melina Marchetta is my favorite and, I think, the most gifted author in the literary world. I like Monet and Dali and painting with oils. I watch NCIS, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Merlin, the Vampire Diaries, and Once Upon a Time. I listen to Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Fun., Muse, the Temper Trap, and FLORENCE + THE MACHINE (!!!).

So..yeah.

Wow, you've finished a novel? That's one of my dreams right now because whenever I start a novel, I either get distracted or get bored writing it. I really want to hang in there long enough to complete at least one novel-I don't care how awful the writing would be. xD! So, what was this novel of yours about? And any particular genre you write in?

I Googled Melina and her stories sure do seem interesting. One of these days I'll order one of her books online-tell me which is the best one, so I'll buy that first. xD!

I find reading poetry before I write actually improves my prose. It opens my mind to better, newer ways of description. I carry around "Ariel" whenever I write. I highly recommend it.

I suppose I lied. I finished one novel on my own, but it was fairly short and not very good. Then I had the same problem as you for a long time, not being able to finish a story, but I got distracted by another one that would pop into my head. So, I did NaNoWriMo. I also highly recommend that. It is writing a 50,000 word novel in 30 days, so it WILL be crap, but it will be DONE. I try to do it every year, but I haven't been able to finish since I won in 2009.

I'm writing a novel about sadness, which sounds unappealing, but when I had a bad episode of depression my counselor suggested I write about my feelings fictionally to help express it. I started researching a lot of terrible wars and genocides, like Rwanda and Cambodia's Year Zero. Then I started writing about a girl whose country goes through something similar. I have never written fantasy before, but no real setting or time fit the story, so I ended up making my own. It's called "Lament" and is going well.

As for a Melina Marchetta book, I would recommend you being with "Saving Francesca". It's one of her earlier ones, but I love it.
