Gladiator
Name: Helena, of Sparta
Age: Not really sure, but suspects about 18 years old
Appearance: Cropped black hair that frames a broad but angular face, with olive tanned skin. Eyes are olivine green. The kind of figure you'd expect of someone who trains virtually all of the time she isn't sleeping or eating her rations. Has the personality and temperament of a tiger.

Okay, here goes...

I whip a knife from its sheath on my thigh, and send it in a controlled spiral towards the formidable wall of muscle and teeth that comes on toward me, dodging my blade with a frightening ease.
A paw comes out of nowhere and swipes across my left arm, hot blood staining the undyed cotton beneath my leather tunic. I bite back a cry of agony, and spin around to face... the beast, at my other side? But, I hadn't taken my eyes off of it...
A roar from behind me gives me my first clue that we aren't duelling, my furry fiend and I. Suddenly they are both closing in from the front- there are two of them!
Their striped hides seem to blur into one as they stalk me, and I back away, leaving a trail of crimson spots in the sawdust.
I fall back onto my elbows, and raise my eyes to the heavens, praying that the end will be quick, and that my fight partner, wherever he's got to, will get my share of the wages.
I brace myself for a blow that never comes. Looking up, I see the glaring sunlight silhouetting the unmistakeable figure of my partner. Hauling my comparatively slight frame up with a tug of one massive arm, he pulls me to my feet and gives me a scathing look, before smiling my favourite smile and turning back to the fight.
It is then that I notice the carcass, the noble beast reduced to a bloodied heap at his sandalled feet. Catching my impressed gaze, he mutters "Only one left- you want the kill this time?" I nod. Revenge for making me look weak in front of the entire crowd will be like nectar to my parched lips.
"What we're trying to do is to write cricket bats, so that when we throw up an idea and give it a little knock, it might...travel."
