No one knows exactly what happened. All you remember is looking up into the sky, staring at an extremely bright light, and blacking out. When you wake up, you're surrounded by piles of rubble and the air is thick with smoke. You're disoriented and all alone. As you slowly regain your bearings, you realize that you're standing in the remains of your former life, the only members of your families that survived.
So, you continue to survive. You are lonely for your former lives and your deceased family members and friends, but your survival instincts have kicked in and you continue to live. You move around your hometown, a city that was formerly flourishing, breaking into stores and finding food and any items you deem useful. Your mindset has changed from that of a normal teenager into a hardened survivor.
At first, you think you're entirely alone in your survival, but gradually you begin to find signs of others: fresh footprints in mud, an empty wrapper with crumbs inside...clues that aren't overly obvious but that are meaningful to you because they mean that other humans exist. That alone gives you hope. You begin to track the clues, attempting to find the people who left them. As the days pass, you sense you're getting closer.
And finally, you find the others.
As it turns out, there are eight of you, and everyone has been doing the same thing: searching for survivors. You're a strange group of quirky people, all of you hardened by survival and emotional pain but managing to hang onto sanity. You understand that sticking together will be the best way to survive...and find out what happened.
All right, let's get this going! There'll be four boys and four girls; the only character trait that is a must is that the characters must be very weird or eccentric in one way or another. Maybe one character is obsessed with a certain author or poet to the brink of insanity. Maybe another character prefers to sing everything she says. You get the picture.
