Achilles-

It was a long walk, and with Antonia in my arms, I wasn't sure if I could. But I kept walking. Of course I could. It would just take a little rest. So I stopped walking and set her down gently on the sand. Then I froze completely. I heard voices, first aggressive, then calm. I came and around the tree and saw them without them noticing me, something I had learnt to do quite well, and listened to their conversation. When they had finished, I stepped out of the shadows and held both my hands up.

"Do not attack," I said, "I mean no harm. Actually, I would like to come in that team of yours. Me and my companion, that is." I smiled at them and continued, "You seem to know some about these islands. But the problem is, this is not one of the islands that you have ever been in. It's magical, and even if you can localize it in a map, we might be in a whole different world. So this is my point. I've been here longer than anyone else. I know at least ten different ways to kill every beast, fight every disease in this cursed island. So, will you come with me, or will you let the Fates decide if you shall live or not? It's your choice, and I'm not one to go stabbing my companions backs..."

Brigid

I liked this new guy's cordial tone. He wasn't threatening, but not the fake kind of non-threatening act my little friend was putting on, genuinely non-threatening. And he was right about sticking together--there was always safety in numbers.

I stepped away from the girl with the sword, my pistol still pointed at her head. "I'll come with you guys," I said. "Can't speak for her...but sure. I'm Brigid." I purposefully omitted my last name. I didn't care how long this guy had been here; I came from a famous family, and with strangers, it was better to keep that concealed. "So where are you two going?"

Nox

"Well well" I said, stepping through the leafy undergrowth. My zombies milled around them, not attacking-for now. One was a girl, the other a man.

I sat on the beach, staring into the sand. I was sure there were others, that I should go looking for food, find help or do something but all I could think about was the look on my little brother's face when the plane crashed. Dead. They're all dead. My whole family. I'm the last McKeetrin left in the world. I stood up and faced the jungle. I heard a cacophony of nighttime crawlers, creepers, insects and man-eaters but I had to find food. I knew how to make a lean-to. Dad always took us camping....Dad. Another rack of pain. Another strangled sob. I kept walking and walking until I heard the voices. Then I started running. I came up behind the three people as the man's monotonous voice intoned, "Greetings. I am Nox."
