Hi guys. This is really a jumble of thoughts that I have put together as a poem. I don't even really know what i'm trying to say and i hope its not too confusing. They all have the same vague theme. Tell me what you think.

Why does it take the worst
to free us from ignorance?
When pulsing all around our being
are the clues to our downfall.

Why does grim death know truth
and only he reveal
the haste with which existence flees
and leaves us hollow?

Why are we blinded by
our self assured clarity
and understanding of this mystic world
of which we know nothing?

Why do we choose the night?
When day shines brightest
and welcomes us while
the dark recoils.

Thanks for reading. Also please enter in my contest "For want of a better word..." It will be a brilliant challenge for all those creative minds out there on this site. There are good prizes aswell. Thanks.

your poem is like a painting that paints a night picture into my thoughts... just like the title itself suggests! :) all of us have their own style as they say... wait a minute... how old are you? haha i'm just 16, and i feel awkward when i review people who are older than me... anyway... here's what i think...

well it is true..because most people tend to free themselves from the grasp of ignorance by doing undesirable things, which, later on, would cause them heartbreak.. :)

the haste with which existence flees... i like the sound of that... it really speaks to me.. that our life is short, and upon death, only then would we know truth(though i'm not sure why...)

Why are we blinded by
our self assured clarity
and understanding of this mystic world
of which we know nothing?
i admit that i assure myself that i know the happenings and the flow of the world around me.. and you ar right that people get blinded by it... really
Why do we choose the night?

and welcomes us while

i love this stanza...very vampiric.... darkness over light? the night is just too cool! :)

well, that's probably it... but try writing works with rhymes... i kinda like those things..:)
