Dark clouds have gathered over the busy streets, and strange people have started pacing the sidewalks. These people have emerged from rips in space and time to stop, or cause, a terrible new evil- from the past and the future they come, combining forces to perform unknown deeds.
They form two groups as they find each other. These two groups are mixed, with characters from the past and the present forming alliances. The groups do not know about each other, but probably will soon.
Aside from this, two shady characters have been witnessed wandering the streets, carrying strange weapons and equipment, disappearing and reappearing at will and surveying the streets for these rips in time; attempting to close them, some say.
As the story unfolds, you will discover good characters and bad characters within these two groups, unlock the villain's motives and discover just who these mysterious street wanderers really are.

There is one antagonist who can be claimed and created on a first come, first serve basis. I thought we'd try something different here- if you're up for the responsibility of controlling the main antagonist in the story, then just post quickly and tell us you'd like to have the villain.
Characters can be from the past, present or the future, but don't overdo it with either time periods, ie. I really don't want loads of characters from the future because "ooh! Lazer guns" and I don't want loads of characters from the Victorian era because "ooh! Steampunk". If a character has already filled a time period, please try to have another one.
Characters must be human. I don't want them to come from so far back in past that their neanderthals, or so far forward that they're aliens, or some super-evolved life forms.
Characters cannot come from beyond the year 10,000. It will come clear why as the story progresses.

Maximum of 18 characters allowed- 6 from the past, 6 from the future, 5 from the present and 1 villain.
No Mary-Sues/ Gary- Stus if it can be helped.
Keep it in New York. Having characters fly to other countries and cities would make it complicated. New York's a big place, with lots of room for stories, so there really shouldn't be any complaints here.
Very open world. You can control the motives and events surrounding your character.
Swearing and violence is allowed, but no graphic sex scenes. Romance is allowed, of course, but nothing explicit.

The two figures are Temporal Wardens. These are the characters of I, BadlyDrawnLightning and my co-storyteller Sandvich. We alone can control these characters- we shall notify you on the decisions they make within the story, and you can meet them, but you cannot control their actions.

Name: Warden One

Appearance: Wears a thick, black uniform made from an undiscovered but very strong and flexible element. Also wears this material over his entire face, making it look perfectly round and flat. Has a camera where his right eye would be. Strong physique and very tall and intimidating.
Personality: Gruff, almost robotic. Attempts to cover up his despair at his eternal life with anger and aggression; doesn’t always work. Is brutal when he kills, although never says that he enjoys it- is often very quiet after a kill, and will never look at a corpse he’s handled. Only kills when is forced to, but allows his anger, almost a second side of him, to escape when he does so.
Flaws: Will prioritise his mission over saving any friends or accomplices he makes. Has limited intelligence- extremely dependant on Warden Two to make decisions.
Abilities/Skills: Expert with all manner of weapons. Above average strength and agility. Psychic link with temporal partner.
Motives: Will die if he steps a foot out of line and does not protect the Temporal Flow.
Allegiance: Temporal Guardians.
Past: Committed atrocious crimes against the Temporal Guardians, has now had his mind “repaired” ie brainwashed to complete tasks for the Guardians and protect the Temporal Warps.

Personality: Never shows any traces of guilt for anything he does. Is physically incapable of doing anything that may compromise his mission. Hates being alive, but cannot kill himself or allow anything to kill him because it would compromise his mission. Often makes dry, dark jokes. He finds a strange joy in killing – he says it is the only thing that keeps him sane. This psychopathy shocks all the other Wardens, except Warden One.
Flaws: He used to be rash and reckless, but Transformation removed this. Even now, though, he still finds the urge to kill overwhelming sometimes.
Abilities/Skills: Expert with all manner of weapons. Above average strength and agility. Psychic link with temporal partner.
