Through the smoke and the rubble,
Shined some light.
All who experienced the awful day and night
Of nine eleven can understand,
We all were affected, but the time has come,
To let out your hand and think,
Whether you live in New York, a small town in Minnesota, or outside of the U.S.
We must understand, we were all affected.
We will remember,
The woman who received a call from her mother asking if she was okay,
She stood there frozen, unable to say, how hard it was to watch the buildings fall,
But that was nothing compared to watching people jumping, risking it all.
A baby cried and a mother cried to,
How will she explain to her daughter that her father didn’t fall from grace,
All he did was fall alongside of those towers;
Being one of many who were just trying to help other escape deaths face.
When a man’s hands shake as he dials the number of his partner, husband, and true love,
The phone isn’t off, he never hears the voicemail, it doesn’t even ring,
All he seems to hear are two beeps, telling him just one thing.
He has most likely lost the love of his life.
The little girl whose daddy calls her, attempting to explain what the bad people have done.
She’s not too far, but the state lines feel oceans away, as he attempts to say,
Holding back tears, that he must venture into the buildings that everyone now fears.
September eleventh will remain in the world’s heart.
The lives lost are not wasted,
The lives created will never replace those who have gone,
And the ones, who struggled but held on, are heroes as well,
Because at the end of the day,
Whether it be people, buildings, faith, security or hope that fell,
We will always remember.
Today is a day to cry, weep, and scream.
To throw a pillow or two, while the news pulls on the nations heart strings.
Yesterday was just a little too fast, but today has come, much like it has in the past.
Tomorrow will arrive, no different than most, except we will not mourn,
We will remember,
Through the fire and despair,
Our memories have prevailed.
