Chapter 2
The sun was finally awake. And so was Aaron. She only managed to get another couple of hours sleep, but she had to admit she felt a lot better and fresh. Although, certainly not happy.
The maids had insisted to her that she wore her best dress that her father had given her for Christmas. It was the most detailed and delicate, and her least favourite. It was bright pink with white bows and purple bows and frills and more bows...
Bows were the things Aaron hated. Dresses also something Aaron hated. But she was a princess. Princesses smile and wave.
Knock knock
Aaron jumped at the sound of her door knocking. It might have been one of the maids bringing her clean nightgowns. "Yes?"
The thing about bringing maids into her room was that maids didn't care if you were naked or fully clothed. The maids that came into her room usually helped her get a tight dress on anyway. However there is a small chance that it might not be a maid at the door.
"Oh my I didn't mean to interrupt."
Aarons eyes widened. Her back was to the door and she was in her underwear. She didn't realise that she had just let in Faron.
"Faron!" She grabbed the quilt for her bed to cover herself and turned around to see the young teenager with a hand over his eyes. "I didn't realise it was you."
Faron warily uncovered his eyes, revealing his tomato-red face. "The fault is mine, princess. I should have stated who I was before I entered," he said. "I do hope you'll forgive me."
Faron was Gareth's oldest nephew. He had many sisters and Faron belonged to Gareth's youngest sister, Veronica. Sadly, two years ago Veronica passed away, and Gareth managed to convince The King to let Faron stay and work here as a message boy. As the castle was so big, The King would send Faron or another person to fetch or send a message to Aaron or another person in the castle. Surprisingly it didn't take long for Faron to know his way around.
The fourteen year old had had light brown hair that came down to the bottom of his neck at the back. Aaron didn't mind the new addition to the castle staff, Faron respected Aarons personality and who she was. That was what Aaron liked about him.
"No,no,no. It's OK," Aaron insisted, desperately trying to keep the quilt above her breasts. "What are you here for."
Faron hesitated, the insident that just happened might have made him forget what he was here to tell her. "Um, The King told me to tell you," he stopped for a moment. "That you have to come outside the castle to Knight Gareth and Knight Humer when you are ready," he finished.
It didn't take long for Aaron to get dressed. She didn't wear make-up and she didn't spend a lot of time making sure that her hair was perfect. The only thing that held Aaron up was her day dreaming. Traveling outside the kingdom, fighting enemies and creatures. The things that only a masculine male would be expected to do. If anyone heard of a woman slaying a dragon or fighting off barons, they'd be more disgusted than surprised.
Humer was far taller and skinnier than Gareth. Unlike Gareth, he kept his beard trimmed and combed to perfection, he looked an absolute gentlemen.
Of course, looks can be deceiving.
Humer had a hard face. Almost as hard as his monotone voice. Never once can Aaron remember a time she had a decent conversation with the knight. Gareth said it was because he, as well as many others, despise the fact that she was a female. But Aaron thought he was just rude and ignorant.
"Finally!" Gareth gave the princess and slap on the shoulder as she approached him. "What took you so long?"
The three were standing in front of the usual carriage that Aaron would sit in every year. Humer was standing around a metre away from Gareth. His arms glued to his sides. Never did he stand any other way.
"When is the thing gonna start?" Aaron questioned. She didn't want to call the parade anything more than a thing.
The sound of trumpets echoed everywhere. From the castle all the way along to the other end of the land. It was a signal for everyone to get prepared.
Gareth shrugged his metal shoulders and held out his hand, gesturing Aaron to take it in order for her to push herself onto the carriage easily. "Looks like it's starting now."
