What was/is your favourite children's book?

I remember loving "Eat Your Peas, Louise!" by Pegeen Snow, illustrated by Mike Venezia. I also liked anything by Patricia Polacco, especially "My Rotten Redheaded Older Brother."

I don't know if that would be considered as a children's book, but I used to enjoy reading short-stories written by Oscar Wilde. (The happy Prince and other stories). I used to read all Disney stories, my favourite one was Alice in Wonderland

I loved all of Roald Dahl's books. My favorite would have to be the BFG, or the Witches. Also loved the classic Where the Wild Things Are. Stuart Little, Martin's Mice, Charlotte's Web, Pippi Longstockings, Cinderella...the list can go on.

Those are my two Roald Dahl favourites too! I love Quentin Blake's illustrations. I read his autobiography, "Boy," and it was very interesting to see how much he pulled from his own life and incorporated in his stories.

Dr. Seuss was a favourite of mine, as was a book in French whose name I can't remember for the life of me. It was about a little runt of a dragon who ended up defeating some sort of villain when his older, stronger brothers couldn't.

My favourite fairytale was Snow White And Rose Red, but I don't think I had a special favourite in books... hmm. Oh, actually, I think it might have been Ist das wirklich Isabell? by Marie Louise Fischer. I tried to google around, but I don't know if it's been translated into English. It's about this girl (Isabella in the Finnish translation) who is really bossy and vain and annoying and her parents get fed up of her and leave her for some weeks to her uncle's family whom she's never seen. And when Isabella's family comes to pick her up in the end, she's all changed because she's had to learn it's not all about her. I really want to read it again now. xD

I also liked Matilda by Roald Dahl, most of the books by Jacqueline Wilson, and Lottie and Lisa by Erich Kästner (that's the book the Parent Trap was based on). Oh, oh, oh and the Famous Five series by Enid Blyton! Those might have been my favourites, actually.

Edit: Oh, and Astrid Lindgren's books (especially Madicken, Seacrow Island, The Brothers Lionheart etc. etc.) and the Moomin books by Tove Jansson.

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak was my favorite, I read it all the time. There was also a book about a witch that turned a dog into a duck, and another book (it may have been a Seuss book...but I'm not sure) where a kid woke up with a shoe on his wall and everything else got weirder from there. I read such strange books as a child

One Hungry Monster by Susan Heyboer O'Keefe. I had a cassette tape that read the story along with you, and I memorized the entire book... not even kidding. I could recite the entire book on command at age 3.

Oh my goodness! Me too! And add Dr Seuss and you've got yourself a little Mikko running around libraries. I always got my Dad to borrow books for me since I didn't have my own card back then, and I would always borrow the same books over and over again.

Oh and I know these aren't really books but I was a huge fan of Where's Wally (confession: I still like looking for Wally)!

My favourite book was The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl. I remember I read it when I broke my finger and though I had a magical finger! Then a bit later my dog chewed the corner of the book lol

When I was really small we used to love The Giant Jam Sandwich and Whenever Bad Baby Comes over for Tea. Oh! And Funny Bones

When I was a kid, I had this enormous book of Thomas The Tank Engine stories that I would read at least daily. TtTE is really what got me into reading as a kid!
