It's been three long years.
We've wasted them away.
All our worries and flaws have held us back.

It's been three long years.
We've tried to make it forever.
All this time spent away just makes this harder.

It's been three long years.
We never talk about it.
The awkward silences are our only escape.

It's been three long years.
I think that's long enough.
We need to put the past behind us.
So we can finally move on.

Hello.
This poem really touches my heart. When I read and reread it, I think of the three years I spent with an awesome boy. It seems to apply perfectly to us.

You don't write with much detail about what happened during those three years. This leaves it open to the reader. Someone else may come along and interpret it differently. Personally, I like poems and stories that are open to interpretation. But, if that was not your intent, you could add a few details. Maybe someone you know was ill and that was why you were worried. Then you should find a way to say that so I don't think it's about a romance.

I also like the actual structure--three line stanzas starting with the same first line. The fourth stanza has four lines, but that doesn't need to be changed. I feel that it helps to make your point. If you wanted to change it, you might consider taking out "I think that's long enough." I understand why you say it, but you use "we" and "we've" to start the second line in the other stanzas. I like to keep it consistent.

Hi originalhobbit.

First off, I gotta be honest, the first thing that I said after I finished reading was, "Wow!". All the suspense... I don't know, I think this poem is perfect.

Like McMourning said, it can be interpreted in different ways, 'cause you didn't really talk about a specific subject. It's just a difficult situation that didn't let the Main Character go on. Unlike her I didn't think about a love relationship, I thought about something more like bullying and stuff like that. Of course, if you don't want others to misinterpret, you should add more details. But I like it as it is. <3 You did an amazing job!

I donno, I don't like it. The wording and flow are awkward at best, the content is snore-riffic, and I don't know, the use of adjectives just seemed obvious. Modifying the word 'years' with the word 'long' is like modifying 'water' with 'wet,' or 'trees' with 'leafy.' Your readers are familiar with what years are and they are aware that years are long. Give em something more potent, next time. The poem is just very predictable and is just like 'the bare minimum.' There's no sensory detail to bring me into the story, no metaphors or anything to make me care. I find myself locked out of this poem. Try again?

I read the other comments and am very in between. I like the poem, it's very simple. Yet, it didn't seem very poetic... I felt like I was just reading a story, an incomplete story due to the lack of detail. And I'm not saying you need more detail, because I like the fact that it's open to interpretation, (I thought of a breakup when I read this.) because anyone can apply it in their lives. So, I liked the vagueness of it. I just didn't like the story. The fact that each line is a sentence makes it almost boring... Almost. Like perdido said, add some better adjectives. Stuff emotion into the poem rather than just hinting at a story. Hope I wasn't too harsh...
