I couldn't find anywhere on the Minecraft Forums to post questions, and since they're so big anyways your questions never get answered. So...I was wondering if anyone here would have any tips and answers. Or maybe even the same question, LOL.

So, my question: Where should I go for Server Hosting? On the forums there are some Hosts, but they don't seem to appealing to me. What I wanted is a server to host like up to 150 people(public). The other thing I was wondering is what kind of host(VPS/Dedicated)?

I plan for the server to be bukkit. I want a website to probably also be hosted, too. So in the end I'm pretty much wondering if anyone here has any experience with Hosts/minecraft servers. I've hosted a server on my own computer before, so I have bukkit experience. I've also recently learned a little bit of Linux Command line, so that kind of stuff shouldn't be a problem.

Now as for specs on the server, I was wondering if anyone could help me verify these:

Spoiler
(Updated, see edit number 1)
3GB Ram
~5 GB of Memory
2.5 Ghtz
Anything else?

And finally, Money is not a problem with this because as I said before, I've hosted a server, and that server was just for friends. So we'd all be splitting the money to pay for it. 200 Dollars a month is probably a good max/average. :)

PS: Any links and resources would be greatly appreciated too! I'll edit this post if I find anything more! :D

And thanks in advance.

EDIT 1:

Hm... So now I'm considering starting with only say 60 people...specs updated. :)

EDIT 2:

So, now Virtual Machines would be remote hosting, and would a dedicated server be me/at my house hosting? Or both?

First off I have quite a good bit of experience with the server side of minecraft things.

1. Bukkit is the best.

2. Learn to use Iconomy, IconomyChestShop, lwc, worldguard, permissions, essentials, etc, etc..

3. DO NOT START OUT WITH A SERVER THAT HOSTS 150 PEOPLE! I can't stress this enough. You'll not get very many at all at the start, in fact you may only get a handful. It takes a lot of time and what attracts mass amounts of new people is the creations on the server or it's "picture appeal." That means you have to build amazing stuff to get a large playerbase.

4. Check this out, McServerlist. Now see how the max number of players most servers have is around 30-40. Then some of the really big ones have moved up to 100 as needed.

5. It should only cost around $40 max to host a server for 30-40 people, and this is where you want to start.

6.If you need help with anything (Bukkit/Plugin setup or have more questions) just reply. I will see it.

EDIT: haha I missed your edits, sorry I freaked out, but 250 people was an insane number!

Well I am an average number kind of guy. So that's why I picked 60. I was doubling RAM amounts to figure out the ratio of ram to players. So I ended up at 60. I soon realized that 150 is a lot. LOL. As for my server, it was Bukkit, and I used:

WorldEdit, WorldGuard, Command Book, Permissions, iChat, Heroic Death, Lockette, and MCDocs. I have a rather...thing against iConomy...

There was also an interesting flight one. It cost customizable resources to use. And some stuff like that. It was interesting. But I'll have to switch to a new one if I can find it, 'cuz this one didn't have permissions support.
