Magazine Idea: Looking for Participants

Hi everybody!
I'm new to the Young Writers Society. I came here to see if anybody would be interested in creating a magazine covering a large range of current events, anywhere from sports to politics. This is an idea I just had, and is obviously in its preliminary stages. I would be looking for writers willing to write a piece every once in a while for this publication. Also, I would prefer writers very interested and knowledgeable in a specific area. The hope would be to give a young voice, and perspective, to the world, using high quality writing. Much of today's high quality writing comes from an older generation. The younger generation is not using as much high quality writing to report news, and analyze it.

This sounds so cool. Are you planning to put together an actual magazine? Or like an e-zine? If so, I think that's awesome. Would there be an area available for like environmental pieces? ^-^ Just curious.

Interesting idea, macaroni638, but at YWS we're pretty multinational, so how would you distribute it? Mail order?
Also, if this is to be an actual published magazine, you need a lot more than just writers. You need a professional graphics artist and an editor, not to mention funding to get it printed and distributed. How are we going to raise all this and co-ordinate the whole thing?

Tr3x, you make a lot of great points, but that doesn't necessarily stand in the way of publishing an e-zine. In fact, if he were to post it to a blog (outside of YWS) it'd be virtually free. And it'd be a lot easier to organize. But in the end it all comes down to what mac (do you mind if I call you mac? ) has his mind set to do. E-zine may be an easier way to go I'd think. Just my opinion. I like the idea though.

Pasta: Canada sounds great, this will give me an excuse to start watching Global National again without looking like a nerd. *Clings dearly to her newspapers and news hours* As for contact I'm almost always available through the chat room, Private messaging, and facebook. If you want my facebook page then shoot me a Private Message because I refuse to put it up for public eyes. You can never be too safe with creeps over the internet!

Tr3x: I'm pretty sure our friend Pasta here isn't a millionaire so I'm sure an Ezine is the way Pasta wants to do this. As for;

Even though this is the 'Young' Writer's society, there are still plenty of artists on here (and PLENTY of people who'd be more than willing to edit.)

I love writing stuff for things! I specialise in investigating the history of everyday, commonplace things. I also like to write articles on controversial topics- religion, gay marriage, the death penalty, etc. Stuff like that. I like to investigate them and either give an editorial opinion or find common views and explain or disprove them.

Your ideas sound great! I'm really excited that there are people interested in this. Torithemonster, your interest in everday things will definitely be an interesting read. So glad you're interested. I realize that this e-zine vs. Traditional magazine issue is important. We can determine this later, but for now I think it's safe to say that it will be in e-zine form for at least a while. Our goal will be to make it as proffessional looking as possible, with many of the same elements as a traditional magazine.

Yeah, I'd definitely be interested in something like this. I can amble my way around Photoshop, and know how to use Wordpress and other blogging engines, so I'm pretty sure I can make a contribution. I would mainly write about technology, the Internet, Youtube etc.
If this is to be a digital publication we can either have it as a document (PDF or other) compiled by an editor after receiving all the articles and posts, or we can have it as a blog format, where different people contribute independently.
A good example of a blog format would be Boing Boing but this is not quite what you seem to have in mind.
Either way, the format is negotiable, but this is definitely an interesting initiative.

Hahah, Pasta. xP Anyway, Mac (I think I'll just call you that I think ^-^) I'm down. Feel free to PM me. I can give you a greater idea of what I'd like to write, or whatever else you may need. But generally I'd like to call dibs on what I mentioned in my previous post. ^-^ The whole blog format would be great. Let me know what you decide though!

Smylin, right now we are just collecting possible participants. Tell all the good writers you know and can find to. One look at this page. Also, as of right now you are the only one to.express interest in doing an environmen piece.
