Hello everyone!

I've just started an account here, and it seems like a pretty cool site so far. I love contests too so I was excited to see this site has them.

My name's Abel, but I'm not all that religious. I live in the U.S., which is okay. I don't know much about poetry (I like to write fiction), but I might give it a try and post some stuff on this site. My favorite books are Catch-22 and Animal Farm. Other than writing and reading, I like running and I run cross country every fall.

I'd appreciate any tips for getting around the site or anything like that!

welcome aboard, brah. I think you're gonna like it here. This community is pretty supportive. I feel ya on the whole poetry thing; too many people just take that stuff too seriously. But what kind of fiction do you like to write, ie Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Fan fic, or just whatever? As for advice the best thing I could tell you is to review, review, review. The more pieces you review, not only the more you'll be exposed to but the more points you get. haha Anyway, welcome to YWS.

We have a plethora of contests here, and you can create some of your own if you like.
As has been said, the best thing you can do is do a lot of reviews. Not only will you get points, but more people will want to review your work.
If you want some help getting to know the site, you can get a mentor from The Buddy System. Your mentor will answer your questions, review your work, and help you meet other members for a month, though they may continue to follow you after the mentor period is over.
We're all a slightly crazy friendly group of people. Welcome to the community!

Welcome to the site! Tip: Chat is a great way to see who writes what. Sometimes, people drop intentional hints on what they write and want reviews on it so they post links to their works.
I'm Ash, By the way. Everyone on here is like a big, messed up, wide spread family (kind of). You get lots of support and advice. This is a great site, and it definately helps improve your writing skills. Everyone is pretty friendly here, mostly.

YWS is greta and the contests are really good as well, it really pushes you to try better, to try win so I'm sure you'll do great.

Everyone here is friendly, a little crazy too but nothing to worry about. If anyone harrasses you on the site,there are loads of people who can help you. Nate, the creator of the site, would be the main person you should contact if anything like that happened, which as far as I know, rarely, barely ever does.

So, some tips ehh?

-You need points to post your work. To earn points, you must review other people's work. A review is a comment on somebody's submitted piece and must be 250 charchter longs. You get 100 points per review and more depending on length of it.

-To post your work costs 100 points.

-Following someone, is like adding them as your friend. People can follow you back aswell.

-You can submit anything you please, photo's,art lyrics, plays,scripts,poems,stories~Anything.

-The people in light green are junior moderators, they run different area's of the site. The people in dark green are moderators, they run the site in general. The people in red are administrators. You can talk to any of these people if you need hekp or are having hassle in any way.

This is a great, helpful site! Everyone here is nice and you'll get many great reviews back...as long as you review others of course. We're a friendly group of people though, so don't be scared ;P
