Curse of the Marie Celeste (Starting/Accepting Characters)

Two ships. One treasure. One curse. And plenty of rum!

Plot:

It is said that the British Royal Navy fears only two ships, the Llorona and the Syren. These two pirate ships are known all over the world for their terrifying stealth and ruthless crews. Both captains are clever and no ship that they have hunted has ever gotten away. The two are deadly rivals. Generally, they try to stay out of each other's way, but when they inevitably cross paths, violence ensues. The last time this happened, villagers on the coast nearby fled their homes for fear of the fight being taken to land.

Now, however, a tale has come up of a fabulous treasure, one that is not only vast in its riches, but which also grants a great power to any who possess it. Rumor has it that this treasure is locked in the hold of a ghost ship which floats in the Sargasso Sea, the Sea of Weeds. No one knows what happened to the crew of this ship, the Marie Celeste, but everyone who tells the tale does seem certain of one thing: The treasure is still there, ripe for the taking.

Of course, most dismiss such stories as rubbish, mindless superstitions. But pirates, being pirates, have their ears perked for any signs of treasure, and this one, something that could grant powers unimaginable to those who possess it, is irresistible. Soon, the crews of both the Llorona and the Syren are raking every port they come to for someone who has seen the Marie Celeste. When they find just such a person, the chase is on. As both ships race towards the Marie Celeste and a treasure beyond anyone's imagination, the pirates fail to connect two most important facts. For the treasure they seek is powerful, yes, but with it comes something terrible beyond belief, something the crew of the Marie Celeste discovered to their peril....


Characters:

At this point, I think it might be easier to have characters on just one of the ships, the Syren. As we start, RedBird will be the captain, and if you want to be First Mate, PM RedBird or me. Also, if you want to have a girl character, that's totally fine, even though it's not really Period. Let's try not to have a full crew of them, though. As the ships reach the Marie Celeste, RedBird will reveal the nature of the mysterious treasure!

The Captain is the only one we know for sure is coming back. Until we know about the rest of them, the spots are reserved. Feel free to include in your profile which position you'd like to be and then we'll tell you if you can or not...I hope I explained that so everyone understood what I meant...I'm not the best at explaining things so just PM me if you don't understand and you think I'm insane!

Personality: sneaky, daring, very smart, mischievous, very tough and very powerful, has a way of getting what she wants all the time, not open to anyone, doesn't trust anyone but the captain, thinks fast, sarcastic, people don't think she's fair (which she always is) - people think she's always bitter but she's really sweet, she just has a lot of anger bottled up inside

Brief history: Her mother died when she was a little girl, and her father abused her. When she was 13 she ran away and signed up to be a crew member of the Syren. She learned how to care for herself, became an excellent swordsman, and most importantly, she learned the ways of pirates and how to survive as one. She eventually became so good at it that she worked her way up to First-Mate!

Strengths: she's very agile, sneaky, talented swordsman, a great leader, will not accept defeat, never gives up, always gets what she wants, very powerful

Weaknesses: she has a very low temper, she doesn't trust anyone but the captian (sometimes not even him), can be very sarcastic and a smart-alec, doesn't open up to anyone

Ship - Syren - Crew Member, but wants to work her way up.

Personality - Isabella sometimes seems too strong morally to be a pirate. She has a very definite sense of right and wrong, and often struggles to make decisions based on this. Otherwise, Isabella has a fiery personality, almost always sticking to her guns when it comes to arguments. She can be very loud, very stubborn, and very demanding.

Bio - Isabella had always been a bit a tomboy, only being forced into dresses when absolutely necessary. She ran around, sparing with sticks and dreaming of adventure outside her boring little city.

Her mother works as a tailor, and tends to be strict and demanding. Her father is a carpenter. She has two older brothers, and a younger brother.

When opportunity arose, Isabelle was quick to chop off her long, red locks, steal the necessary clothes from her brothers, and join the crew of the Syren.

Other: She tries to hide the fact that she's a girl as much as possible, to avoid discrimination.

Name: Niccodaemus Burns, but usually called "Cap'n" or, if he's with friends, Nicco

Gender: Male

Age: 20

Position on ship: Captain of the Syren

Personality: Nicco is a headstrong young man, and he often lets his emotions get the better of him. He may be a pirate, but even when he takes ships, he doesn't usually kill anymore than he has to. He is also fiercely protective of his crew, who he thinks of as his family.

Appearance: He has shoulder-length black hair that is usually tied back with a red ribbon. His eyes are bright green, and he has a bunch of freckles. He's around 5' 7", and pretty lean. His right ear has a golden hoop through it. He typically wears a red longcoat.

Brief history: Nicco was an orphan on the streets of London before he got press-ganged at age 12 to be a midshipman on a ship of the Royal Navy. The crew of this particular ship was harsh, the captain even more so. Nicco used this to his advantage, and turned the crew against the captain. Thus, by the age of 14, Nicco had taken the ship for his own and entered the world of piracy.

Strengths/weaknesses: He is somewhat hotheaded, and reacts based on his emotions, which can get him into a lot of trouble. He is very protective though, and is a good person to have on your side.

Other: Up for love

Well this isn't exactly gout anywhere... Oh well...

Name: Lidz

Gender: Female

Age: (15-30) 16

Appearance: (Picture and/or Description) Short pixie hair and blue eyes. Tall and athletic build, Usually wears a black and blue stolen top and pants.

Position on ship: Whatever is left

Personality: Confident, likes to have a laugh, brave and determined. Can come across as bossy and is VERY competative, which often leads to her downfall.

Brief history: Can she be an orphan?

Strengths: Determined. If someone says she can't do anything, she will do everything in her power to show them that they're wrong, but this often leads to her jumping into things without thinking.

Other: Wants to find someone, but doesn't really care. Is a terrible flirt but hasn't really found the "right" man.

I opened up most of the positions again. I figured that since none of them replied when I asks them if they were still in it that we shouldn't keep waiting. Take your pick now from the open positions!

Name: Artemis Starmie Darkrai (responds to Stargazer or Hunter)
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Appearance: waist-length jet-black hair that's always in a braid, strange violet eyes, pretty tall, athletic build, and always wearing black from the chest down. He also wears a circular medallion around his neck, but this is hidden under his shirt so no one could steal it from him.
Position on ship: Navigator/ swordsman
Personality: This strange soul hardly talks much, but obeys orders without question or complaint. All he ever does is either hum while he works or just sits in the crow's nest gazing at the stars all night. He's not really lazy, he just looks like it at the oddest times. He has a little trouble with verbal interaction, but most of the crew understand him through his facial expressions. He's also a little obsessive-compulsive when it comes to the sword on his right hip. Try to steal it from him or even touch it when he's not looking and he will throw a vile temper tantrum.
History: This unfortunate soul is an illegitimate child of a duke and a secret pirate. He was raised by his aunt until guards tried to steal him away at sixteen. He escaped his aunt's house before the guards burned it to the ground. All he has left of his loving aunt is the golden medallion that she had as a spoil from her pirating days. At 19, he heard of the Syren and decided to embark on some pirating expedition. He's been a member of the Syren crew for three months now.
Strengths: He's an excellent navigator when it comes to finding directions at night. True to the nickname Stargazer, he loves to gaze at the stars and even look for constellations for fun. He also has an attraction for jewelry or anything shiny. If you get him to talk, he's also quite the storyteller.
Weaknesses: This poor soul is very emotional when it comes to hearing stories about relatives. Say something about a cousin, aunt, or uncle and Artemis will hit the water works.
Other: He's up for love. Straight orientation.

Would QuarterMaster be OK then? That's like third in command.

Name: Dianna Morris

Gender: Female

Age: 19

Appearance: Dianna has long, wavy, brown hair and brown eyes. She always wears a key necklace. She has eyeglasses, but only uses them to concentrate on her work. She wears pastel colors and likes to dress casually, but a bit formal at the same time. She has long, slender legs, but has a stitch scar on her left knee.

Personality: Dianna is kind, but can have some issues with something she believes is wrong. She never gives up and fights for what she believes in. She doesn't believe on love at first sight and may be hard to get. Although he will give love a try when she feels like it. She is smart and wise. She loves to interact and make everyone feel good.

History: Dianna's father used to benthe captain of a ship, along with her brother becoming the cabin boy for training. Unfortunately, the ship was swallowed by an enormous wave in the middle of a storm, and everyone on the ship was
declared dead. Dianna's father was after this one treasure, and she hopes to find it for her father and brother's sakes by
sailing in the Marie Celeste.

Strengths: Dianna never gives up. She fights for what she believes in. Dianna is smart and wise. She knows what she's
talking about when it comes to cartography. She rarely is seen in fights and isn't as vigor as people might think she is.
Dianna is a very good swords fighter, but no one really knows that.

Weaknesses: She likes to speak about what's in her mind. She is hard to get, and she doesn't fall in love that easy. Dianna sometimes keeps to herself, and isn't that good at sneaking from place to place when she needs to. She isn't very good
with hand to hand combat.

Other: Maybe she's up for love, if he confesses or understands her well.

Nicodaemus, Captain of the Syren,

I stand near the helm, looking out at the calm sea. The salty smell tangs the air and I breathe deeply. It's good to be sailing again. I glance back down at the main deck, where my crew is busy. In the shadow of the mast, a man is chained to the deck, sitting with his head between his legs. I smile to myself. Then again, taking to port was all worth it now that we have the information we need. I stare again at the horizon, which tinted a strange green color. Excitement races through me, laced with fear. The Sargasso Sea.

Abruptly, I turn and walk down to the main deck, and stride over to the man chained at the base of the mast. As I pass, calls of "Hullo, cap'n," ring out. I smile and wave them off. When I reach the man, I nudge him gently with the tip of my boot.

"Get up please, Mister Grant," I say pleasantly. He looks up at me fearfully. I sigh, "Look, me and my crew don't want to hurt you. Really. Like I told you, we just want your, ah, knowledge of the area that you so kindly mentioned when we were back in London. Give us that, and we'll take you to what ever port you would like. Free of charge."

This earns a laugh from nearby crew. Grant is still looking at me through fear-stained eyes. I lean down at put my face close to his, "We've reached the Sea of Weeds, Grant. Now kindly tell us where we might find the Marie Celeste."

From the crow's nest, I heard the captain mention the Marie Celeste. The crew below chuckled, but someone else asked about my whereabouts. I thought, I've been here for three months and I still come unnoticed? Well, guess that's what you get for not being much of a talker. You never were much of a talker for such an unfortunate soul. I stayed where I was.
The captain called, "Stargazer, get down here! We need your navigation skills!"
Without a word, I climbed down the crow's nest and joined the crew to await orders.
