Spiral-Horned Dragon Head Portrait

It has been a long long LONG LONG time since I have drawn a dragon head portrait, and somebody saw my other dragon head and asked to see something more recent.http://www.youngwriterssociety.com/viewtopic.php?t=72666
I drew all of this during school over a spread of days, and it was all done in a mechanical pencil (yes bad bad!). I know it's a no-no, but I got tired of using real drawing and shading pencils. It still turned out okay
I have never done spiral horns before, and it was a pleasant change. I will try to get back into the habit of doing dragon portraits.

Wow, this is really great! The attention to details is amazing, how do you get enough patience to draw all of these scales perfectly? I can't find anything technically wrong with it, except maybe that the eyes could be darker and more intense... they seem lost in all this detailing.

Like times.... Four hundred! This is fricken amazing. I could never in a million years do something this detailed and precise. I would definitely, almost literally, die from lack of patience. It's simply amazing how much detail was put into this drawing and what amazes me even further is that this was done in school, and on a mechanical pencil, none the less!

As the previous reviewer stated, though, the eyes seem lost. I almost had to look for them because they were small and blended into the scales of the head. I would suggest making them either bigger or darker, or maybe even both, just so you can actually see them. Also, by making the eyes stand out more you might even be able to make the face look more intense.

I love the shading on the spirals of the horns. You can really see the light vs. shadow and it really makes it seem like you could feel the twisting of the horns. It's very well drawn

I definitely admire you for drawing something so detailed and difficult. Bravo! keep drawing!

Okay, so I like drawing dragons. But this--this--is just magnificent! Honestly, the attention to detail, the straight lines, the contrast of different types of scales and that lacy-thing by the mouth, and those curved horns. Amazing.

I can totally see it as being a milky-eyed, blind elder dragon who teaches small apprentice dragons day in and day out and is perpetually bored and inventive on the job. (I don't know, no.)

Anyway, I do suggest adding a bit more shadows. The skin below the horns specifically should have shadows. But you can always add that. Really, you did a wonderful job. I'll have to check out some of your other art.

Wow, pretty amazing. Since it's so good It's going to be hard to review it properly. Pretty well detailed and balanced overall. Naturally,it could be better, every can be but this is really fantastic. I'm doing Asian dragons for research in art class and i understand how hard they can be to draw. I'm fine with heads personally but the feet always stump me.

In general this is great there are to many positives for me to point out.

I'm going to try and find something useful to say... The inside of the mouth is a little lazy compared to the rest. The eye doesn't work well. The scales on the left side of the neck probaly need a little more work, more detailing to make them look real and a defiant gum line on both dies of the mouth would be nice.

Ah! I'm so jealous! This is beautiful! The dragons that I draw always turn out childish and cartoon-y. So I love the detail on this, and the shading. Drawing with a regular pencil is perfectly fine, I see nothing wrong. If you can do something like this, then who's to tell you not to use a pencil?!

I looked at your other dragon head, and I think this one looks a lot more natural, and that you improved a lot on the proportion.

I would really love to see you draw a full body dragon, I bet that would be really amazing. With the amount of detail you like to do, though, a big paper would work best if you were to draw the whole thing.

This is absolutely incredible. The artistic talent displayed in this is so jawdropping and I can't believe how great it is. I always love looking at drawings of dragons even though when I actually try to draw them they look riddiculous. You're an amazing artist and I love everything about this drawing! I do however have to agree the eyes were barely noticable one of a dragon's main feature's is either the eye's or the scale's. The scales were obviously amazing but the eyes were virtually invisible in porportion to the rest of the head and neck. Despite that factor I was still blown away by this epic artwork.

I really like all the different patterns and texture you created in this. The circles on his head, the more jagged scales on the back, and everything in between. I think that is the most attractive thing about this piece.

Great job on the horns! They look very realistic!

MAYBE the front part of his neck could use some more defining. The part with the squigglish lines.

To me, the fangs could've been bigger

The eye looks almost non-existent. And I would like more shading there, and probably some kind of pupil, too.

Besides that, I have to repeat what everyone else said. LOVED IT! <3

Well move over Vincent Van Gogh, we've found your equivalent with a pencil! Incredibly drawn, unbelievably conceived! I couldn't even imagine drawing something of this degree! Now for a top to bottom review...

The horns are exquisite. Arranged and drawn so perfectly on the head, and protruding from the jaw. Wonderful!

I love the pattern on the face, and around the eye, and on the top and back of the head. The open mouth, teeth, tongue, beak could not be more shapely. Need I say more?

The curve in the neck is just right, and I love the scales and hard plating on the front. The pattern makes it look so realistic! Not to mention the masterful shading of the whole piece. Oooh, I'm seething with envy for this drawing artisanship!

Absolutely no criticism from me. Please keep gracing us with your wonderful dragons!
