Hi all.
I'm entering a public speaking competition, and am required to perform an interpretive reading which is 5 - 8 minutes in length. It can be anything, poem, prose or even an excerpt from a novel, but it has to be a published work of literature. Right now I'm considering Edgar Allen Poe's 'A Cask of Amontillado' but its a bit dark. It can be humorous, romantic or action packed. Any ideas?

From the great short-story humourists, I highly advise you to take a look at Jerome K. Jerome or O. Henry.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was an inappropriate use of exclamation points. I loved Jerome K. Jerome's '3 Men in a boat'.

Maybe I should say something quote-worthy, like, I dunno... "You can only be happy if you decide to be happy?"
