Now anyone who knows me,
knows I don't write love-poems.
But you should also know
that when I have something so say,
by God, I'm gonna say it.

What is love?
A question so often debated.
Many say that what they need
is to be told,
"you're beautiful",
"you're brilliant",
"you're wonderful",
"you light my way".
But what use are such meaningless words?
It's only sentences strung together,
simply telling, talking, speaking, rambling,
it's not love.

Some say love is the sensing,
kissing, lips pressed together,
holding, arms wrapped tight,
smelling, drifting, lingering odors,
feeling, hearts pounding,
blood roaring,
voices calling....
How foolish.
You should know
that is not love,
those symptoms describe lust,
don't get confused.

And some say love is the closeness,
the joining of two souls,
the lost and found
to be found and lost,
the listening, the talking,
the meaning every word!
Love is not lust,
it is not simply speaking,
simply telling.
Love is meaning every thing,
every touch counting.
Love is enjoying the appetizers
just as much or even more
than the main course.

Love is truly being interested
in EVERYTHING your One may say.
Love is NEVER wanting someone else.
Love would drive you to the ends of the Earth,
the depths of hell and back
just to find your One again.
Love is meaning it every time you say
or your One says:
"you're beautiful",
"you're brilliant",
"you're wonderful",
"you light my way".
Love is saying those things and MEANING it!

Love is faceless,
blind and deaf.
It is a feeling,
a sureness in your soul.
A form of intuition.
Love is KNOWING
that you will be there for your One
FOREVER,
and embracing that thought.

But put more simply,
love is love.
It is not lust,
not passion,
not touching,
not telling,
not seeing,
not smelling.
It is love.
A feeling in your very soul,
causing you to see your One
only as they are.
To see their every flaw
and want to be with them more.

Love is a far deeper,
a far more complex thing
than we give credit for.

Tossing the word around
like it's a joke,
not really meaning it.
"I love that shirt",
"I love that dress",
"I love sports",
"I love television".
But when we do say
"I love you",
It is a far, far different matter.
Love isn't such a light thing.

Love cannot be put into terms,
there are no true words,
no real way of understanding.

It cannot be bought and sold,
nor can it be sought for.
It is merely to be found,
because the only word that's ever gotten close
to describing such a mind-boggling conundrum is
"love".

And that's all there is to it.
I dream by day.

This poem reminds me of the Existentialist movement. I enjoyed the poem as it was. I don't think you should change anything with this because otherwise the message might change. And you are right when you say love is love, because love altogether is something we will never fully comprehend, but I have to disagree with the point that love is forever. The reality is love is relative and timed. Love may last for a a few moments or forever. I should say though that a part of love will last in a person forever. love shapes everything. love shapes every view of every person in love or not. Love is really like someone cutting a part of your heart out and keeping it. You will always remember the people you love: parents, friends, romantic partners--everyone who has been important in your life. Your poem speaks a great truth in a great way. Keep writing.

Well...i dont quite agree with you when you said that : "Some say love is the sensing, kissing, lips pressed together, holding, arms wrapped tight, smelling, drifting, lingering odors, feeling, hearts pounding, blood roaring, voices calling....How foolish. You should knowthat is not love, those symptoms describe lust, don't get confused."
I mean, those are symptoms of TRUE love too you know. I would say that lust is a superficial feeling, it never goes too deep...while what you wrote here is true love...real love (in my opinion) :)

If not, over all the poem was nice. I do agree when you said " Love is faceless, blind and deaf.It is a feeling,a sureness in your soul.A form of intuition.Love is KNOWINGthat you will be there for your OneFOREVER,and embracing that thought."

Also, maybe you shouldnt like scorn what others think when you write. Like when you said "How foolish" after describing what others think. If your intention is to convince others, or convey a message that is contracdictory to what others think, i think you should me more persuasive have less the attitude of "i am right, you are wrong" if you know what i mean ;)

(hope ehat i said didnt annoy you...just my opinion) :)

The love I was describing was the feeling, not the acting. I was describing what love is in itself, not what love leads to. This was about true love, and true love doesn't need to be expressed because you know its there. That's what I meant, not what you do when your in love but what true love actually is, the feeling not what that feeling leads to.

I realize that may be a little confusing. I was simply trying to explain the feeling that is love, not the actions or the expressions because that is not "love" per-say, love is the emotion itself and True love is there even without the actions.

My point was how people think they know what love really is when no one can describe it without the cliches.
I dream by day.

Love is all we have, the only way that each can help the other.
