This kind of came up today since I was mundo bored. Inspired by the novel I'm working on right now. Made by GIMP, and paintbrushes taken mostly from obsidiandawn.com. Enjoy. XD

...Ohkay enough with the caps naow. ^^;;; Again, I am in total envy of you because you are in that category I have labelled "Epic With Digital Art". And I doubly envy you because you used a program I have yet have not figured out enough to be able to do something like this. O_o (Did you use a tablet, by the way? xD)
So. Awesomeness: the girl, the transmutation circle, and the design in the background. I *love* the choice of golds and oranges, and the girl just *pops* out of that mass of "energy"-like color.
Not-so-awesomeness: The title and the "blurring" around it. I think you might have been better just using a lighter shade of the background color/design in a round-edged square around the text than using the blur/dodge tool (at least that's what it looks like?) to get the choppy effect. I kinda see what you were going for, but there's something off about it that just...I don't know. Seems a little sloppy, to me? >_>
Just my 2 cents. Do know this is AMAZING *enviesenviesenviesenviesenviesenvies* and that you MUST keep it up! ^_^

"Pay Attention. Pay Close Attention to everything, everything you see. Notice what no one else notices, and you'll know what no one else knows. What you get is what you get. What you do with what you get is more the point. -- Loris Harrow, City of Ember (Movie)
Except the title. It could probably use some more work. instead of fading it, couldn't you have done something else? It looks kinda cheesy. Sorry, but yeah. And the font is overused. Try downloading a new one from somewhere, since Monotype Corsiva (yes, I am THAT kind of nerd) looks lame here. Your story deserves better.
However, the parts below that are epic. The girl stands out vividly from the background, and though her arms seem a little awkward it is still incrediblawesome. The circle-thing under her - is that a transmutation circle? - is well-done, and has that there-but-not-there effect. Love it.
Keep it up! You are magic with GIMP - I've never used it, and I don't think I will ever be able to. (I'm a Stone Age savage till I get a tablet, till then it's pencil and paper. Not rock carvings for me just yet, ha ha. That's after the inevitable apocalypse.) - Alyx
"We're all mad here." So said the Cheshire Cat, who seems to have powers of prophecy that extend to parallel worlds.

If you would like a review, please do drop by my wall and scribble something, preferably with a marker - pencils don't show up very well, I'm afraid.
O.o This is really nice. I can imagine going to the library and finding a book-cover that looks like that. The artwork is phenomenol. I like the colors of the thing the girl is standing on. The only thing that bothers me is the title font size/ arrangement. Maybe you could have the "B" in Blackened be a bigger size, or a shadow of the words. It might just be a Crescent thing though. xP Keep up the GLIMPing? -Crescent
Please take care to use good grammar when making a post!
If this was an actual book cover to a book at Barnes and Noble I would most likely pick it up and read it! I love books with interesting covers. I never judge a book by its cover though.

I really like this. The pure simplicity of it influences the dramatic influence it has on the person looking at it. It looks inviting and is the kind of thing someone would want to pick up and take a better look at.
The colors were a little bright, but I think that aspect would be impossible to avoid whilst still retaining the flow that the cover seemed to produce. Despite my previous criticism I did think the colors flowed nicely together. The next thing I should mention is concerning the title. I personally like the title, I think it stands out and it has a kind of mysterious aurora about it, 'Blackened Runes'. The wording is magnificent and as a whole I cannot find any flaws in it.
There was only one thing I thought the cover lacked in and that was the fact that there was not much going on. The simplicity was good at first, but when I searched for something deeper I struggled to find anything else. However I do acknowledge the beautiful silvery design that swept around the feat of the girl. I should also mention that I absolutely love the color of the girl's silhouette I think it just stood out on the page like a footprint on the snow (in a good way!!!!!!)
Overall I think you are very talented and if you want you can either ignore my criticism or take on the challenge of improving this already perfect book cover!
Well Done Keep up the epic work ------CuteJackRussell
Hello, I doubt you will take the time to look at this signature, you are all busy people and I respect that, but if you do know this. Every bit of criticism on my writing has helped and every bit of advice you have given me has also helped. So thank you, for everything. From CuteJackRussell xoxox
I think this looks great! I LOVE GIMP because it's awesome to use and it's an opensource software and of course, I am a cheap newly-turned 14 year old. However, I do feel that the title is a bit out of place on the cover. I know, it sounds a bit odd, but something just makes me feel as if it shouldn't be there.
I'd also just like to say that I will probably never brilliant enough to do that =P
