This is one of two poems I wrote with Calligraphy for the YWS Poetry Pairs contest. We're trying to decide which to submit for the contest, and we'd appreciate your advice. Here's the link to the other poem. topic77753.html Oh, and one more thing: the non-haiku verses at the beginning and end are intended to be that way. Just saying.
It's a circle.
Pain. I can taste it.
Scream if you must; I like it,
This complete control.
Pain. I can feel it.
As it rips through my body,
Then I feel alive.
Pain. I’m glad to give.
It’s not my fault. They like it.
It is a cycle.
Pain. I need it now.
Alone, I do it myself.
Stopping hurts too much.
Blood. It's death for you,
But life for me. Give me this,
and I will love you.
Blood. A steady stream
From my skin, embracing me.
It's all I deserve.
Blood. Pumping through us.
It needs fresh air, to get out.
I just help it some.
Blood. My skin itches.
I need to get it out. Now.
I just need some help.
Love. Yes, I love you.
You love me too, right? So what's
A bruise here and there?
Love. Yes, I love you.
See the cuts, the scars, the tears?
I did this for you.
Love. Reassurance:
If you love me, prove it.
You love it anyway.
Love. I will prove it.
I will endure. I want to.
You can’t make me scream.
Pain. It all comes down
To this. Taste my pain and yours.
Parasite and prey.
Pain. I live for this.
For you. Total submission.
Cut me one more time.
Pain is good to give.
No one can make me stop. Never.
We feed off each other.
Pain. I worship it.
It was my first friend and last.
I just can’t stop now.
It’s a circle.
