-Forget-

Kindle your spirit,
stoke your drive,
forge your self,
build your mind.
But forget it all.

Live in the now,
not the then.
Love everything
and everyone.
But forget them.

What did I tell you?
Did you learn nothing?
The heart is feeble
as it remembers the old.
So remember to forget.

One grows remembering
ultimately regretting choices
of bygone days
and out-grown ways.
But we still must forget.

I forget, not by choice,
but by nature.
I live simply, or try to,
my mind still quarrels with itself.
I cannot forget.

We're all liars,
speakers with no voice.
The only difference
is the lie's relevance.
Forget words with no meaning.

Picture a face
that holds a name.
Forget it,
and be surprised at once.
Forgetting and learning.

Leave the old in the dust
the new out to shine
only to be forgotten,
eventually, in time.
Forget my words, not their relevance.

Author's Note: Okay, okay, don't bark at me too hard, dudes and dudettes. I wrote this in third hour reading for pleasure in place of reading, because one: I didn't feel like reading, and two: the teacher loves me and doesn't care if I do homework, read, write, or sleep in class.

I wrote this with the thought of my general forgetfulness in life, how hard it is sometimes for things to stick inside my brain. But, I sometimes take it as a mixed blessing. Sometimes, it's good to forget things until you need them. Others, it gets you in trouble. A lot. But I play it off, so I'm good.

Thanks for reading and enjoying (and hopefully reviewing!) and I hope you read more by me!

This speaks the truth. You spoke natural truths of humanity that are the same for everyone yet nobody likes to admit to. And you did this while maintaining rhythm and beat. It sends a good message out to those who choose to dwell in the past, and some of us need that. Just one thing is where you say, "I forget, bot by choice, but by nature." I think you meant 'not'. Besides that tiny detail, I really enjoyed this poem and I'd like to read more of your work. :D

TheWalkinDude wrote:Kindle your spirit,

build your mind. Cliched. Rework this.
But forget it all.

Live in the now,
not the then. A bit cliched.
Love everything
and everyone. This could be better.
But forget them.

What did I tell you?
Did you learn nothing?
The heart is feeble
as it remembers the old. Huh. Not sure about this.
So remember to forget. Could be better.

One grows remembering Grows...up? "Grows" by itself has a different meaning.
ultimately regretting choices This is too confusing. Aim for simplicity.
of bygone days
and out-grown ways.
But we still must forget.

I forget, not by choice,
but by nature.
I live simply, or try to, "I try to live simply, yet" Again, aim for simplicity in poetry.
my mind still quarrels with itself.
I cannot forget.

We're all liars,

The only difference
is the lie's relevance.
Forget words with no meaning.

Forget it,
and be surprised at once. These last two just don't work for me.
Forgetting and learning.

Awesome! Keep it up!

I really like the idea of this and you really took it head on and sold it, although some of the wording could be better. You gotta be careful playing with this kind of poetry and read it out loud to yourself to make sure it flows. It is always easier when it rhymes, but I just hate poems that rhyme most of them are just confusing.
Writing like you wrote this, you can express easier what you are meaning to express, rather than having to express it within a box of rhyming word.
I believe poetry is about finding that hidden voice, but when it rhymed, the voice is sheltered.
The effect of this poem in general is really good because of the roughness of it. I like the little picture it draws in my mind.

Love it!! Keep writing!!!
