Age is fear

Note: What do you think of this Haiku? Effective? Strong? Disarming?

Funny you should ask, but I found it oddly assuring.

Today is my birthday you see, and I am now halfway to middle age. I was beginning to wonder if I would start to feel the erosion of time, and here I am reading this haiku. Although, to be honest, I haven't read many haikus before. This being the first. I rather liked it. It fit exactly into the theme of my day. My youth has all but disappeared, and with it my hopes of staying time.

It's been raining nonstop, it's cold, and it's my birthday. What isn't poetic about that? Also, it's night. Perfect. I can fit my life at this moment into those four lines. It has been "strong"ly "effective" in "disarming" me and allowed me to take a step back from my illusions about how a birthday should be, to see the reality unfolding around me. So, thanks. You should just rename this haiku, The Birthday of Baywolf.

Thanks Wolf! I'm happy you found this, that's exactly what I hoped someone would be able to relate. I wonder if the title should be different, since it didn't inspire "fear" in you, but reassurance. Maybe change it with acceptance, or renewal, or your suggestion.
