Well, that would depend on whether or not the pirate had a sword. Assuming he did, though, I'd pick the German Shepherd. After all, I have a way with dogs.

I'd go back in time since I wouldn't be going closer to the end of the world, and I already know how the story ends.

Would you rather be a criminal on the run for murder of a law enforcement officer, or be lost a hundred miles away from the nearest city, trying to get back to it?

Lost. At least that way I would have a chance of finding food and water, and eventually getting back to civilization. However, if I was on the run, it would quite likely just end up with me starving for a few days--or weeks--and then getting caught and put in jail.

Would you rather have to hit a child or not eat for two days?

Hit a child. Gently. With a limp noodle.
