According to Wiki, this means that my work of gore and guts and zombie children will be read by 10-11 year olds. My evil plan to corrupt young children into my private army has begun.

This is good, because this is based on a paragraph from Country Boy, which is supposed to be more of an adult novel...so I'm glad to be writing at this level for this specific story! Hooray!

I tried a Hemingway story, "Hills like White Elephants," and the Grade level was a 2 and the ease score was an 86. I just think that's awesome and totally expected.

I just put in a peice of my poetry and got a negative two hundred something. Are you sure this thing is legit? But on the bright side, my essays have gone up since I posted in this forum last year

Wow, this is addicting...but not entirely accurate. Think about it, it takes spelling, punctuation, and length of words and comes up with a grade score on that. For example, I posted Thomas Hardy’s Convergence of the Twain, and got 10-58, which isn’t entirely accurate if you read any college professor’s theses on the poem. And anyway, let’s say you’re writing a comic book or screenplay, the content and diction might place you at graduate level, but because of word length and format you get age 6.
For example, I posted a section from my action/adventure novel. Obviously, I didn’t use a whole lot of longer words since that bogs down the prose and would completely destroy the mood I need. So I got a fairly “low” score. Conversly, if I were to write an abstract/experimental piece, the score would be higher in both areas, even though it probably wouldn’t make much sense.
And who’s this Flesche-Kincaid dude anyway?

I am a huge fan of Hemingway and the "Imagism" style in which he writes.

Everyone here who think low grades and easy reading scores are bad things, do not worry. I posted Hemingway's The Old Man and The Sea in its entirety:

Difficult words does not make your text better, nor will you reach your audience if they do not understand what you are saying, something that helped me a lot when trying to write with smart words and by over-describing things, it did not work for me in the end.

Now as for one of my own short stories:

Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease score: 73.

The words might be easy to read and understand, but I doubt people will get what the story is really about. And that for me is an achievement that gives me more pleasure than using fancy words.

It seems people think that they're work is aimed at for example, grade 6, when those numbers show up, but that is not what it means. People from that grade and up will be able to understand your work, they are not your target audience however.

Is there anyway to test the accuracy of this program?

I entered my own writing and got a score of 6, 71

Then I entered a chapter of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" and it received a score of 4, 84 . . .

That can't be right.
I'm guessing that works with more frequent dialogue will raise easiness score and lower the grade level score. Because making a character sound believable usually means they use shorter sentences/ syllables when they talk?

That's the theory I'm going with anyway.
I removed a lot of the dialogue from my writing and got a score of 9, 58.
