So, the 'Pyre finally submits one of her sketches! This is my first work of 2011, so I thought I'd do something new and actually post it Enjoy!
That night she drew her swan breath in a bed Made soft with all her razor blades, That kissed her wrists with the romance you lacked. As the hands that you’d kissed now dealt the trades
I liked this, its a beautiful piece. The shadowing is really good and I love how its a doll but looks very much like a real life person. I do, however, think that the top half is a little bit out of proportion to the lower half. Apart for that a lovely sketch and I look forward to seeing more. Well done!
BRAVO.... Its a marvelous sketch... Great shading..... I have nothing else to say... I'm speechless... By the way did you use charcoal for this??? Keep up the great work... PM me for anything...
Are you living for the things you are praying for?
Well, this is beautiful, but I still got a few more things you can work on to make it more beautiful.
Her arms seem awfully long, compared to her body. You might want to make them shorter so it seems a little bit more in proportion to the rest of the body. Also, her head a little bit tiny. Or at least, it looks like it is. Maybe make it a little bigger? It's just my opinion.
Keep up the good work! And I'm happy you posted this.

1. Overall a nice feeling. It's quite dark which i like, the shading is good to.
2. The proportion is also a little skewed. Only a little bit, the puppet is a little to long and lanky. A little flat.
3. More clothing detail. The plainness of the puppet detracts form the haunting shadow and shade. Also more detail and the joints it looks a little lazy, try looking up marionettes on the internet to get a better look.
I'm a bit tired, so that will be all. Anyway keep up the good work!
This sketch has a great concept. When I read the title, an image immediately jumped into my head. When I saw the piece, for a moment it matched my mental projection perfectly.
But then I realized that it didn't quite work for me. The drawing itself is decent enough. The way the hair falls over the face is particularly impressive, for it really sets the tone of the drawing more than any other component.
The main thing I would like to see you do is re-draw it. Take what you've done here and use it as a rough draft. You have a concept, now build on it. Think of how a puppet looks without someone pulling the strings. They don't just hang, they almost look...broken. The strings attached to their arms and legs are pulled taut allowing the joints at the elbows and knees to hang and sway. Play with the position of the puppet. Extend those arms out wide and let the forearms hang down. Give the picture some character. Let the face be your starting point, and draw a body that matches that tone.
Just sayin.'

Got YWS? I do.

i love the melancholy. the title goes well with it. i don't mind a marionette with long arms and legs--aren't they supposed to be like that after all? cheers.

You've got the key to my heart..but have you forgotten about a duplicate? Sorry. I've already given it to someone else.
I must say--awesome job. I was going to comment on how the face was done (not very human) and the body is a bit 'off' when it comes to perspective. Then I remembered it was a doll and you were trying to come off as 'different', probably.
Anyway, I liked it. Very different. Yet, there was something that put me off--I think that was my 'this is creepy' radar beeping, though. However--nice shading and very neat.
Just, if you were going for more human--like in your next drawing--I suggest looking up anatomy, or finding an old book on using it in art like something by Jack Hamm. In the book I have by him, it shows the skeleton underneath, how to measure, how to build bodies in different ways, etc. It was very helpful to me--gives you insight on what is going on underneath so you know how to show the skin and clothes. Or something. Yeah.
