Black numbers on pages before me,
Their meaning I could not see.
I sat for hours, numb to my knees,
Pencil idle in hand, searching for keys,
For solutions to the slippery equation.
But the figures, they danced and capered!
Misery and befuddlement they savored,
Taunting and jeering with their imprints,
Despite my efforts I found no hints,
Nothing but mounting trepidation.
Time flew by with unsurpassed speed,
Ignorantly deaf to my fervent pleads
While answers yet evaded me.
Oh, how badly I wanted to flee
From calamity consequential!
With a test in two days,
My nerves started to fray.
Frantically I sought for reprieve!
Impending doom I did perceive:
An “F” on the provincial.

This is a piece I wrote several years ago which I recently rediscovered. Not my usual style, but it's rather fun so I thought I would see what people think... I fixed it up a little before posting. Any comments are very much appreciated, like always!
