When one thinks of a long summer’s day
They often think of no work
And nothing but play
Now everyone can shirk
It’s nothing like the beginning of May
Once that bell rings, everything becomes quirk
The flowers and the grass all bloom with pride
And now you always have your best friend by your side
But when I think of summer I don’t think of those things
I think about my summer job
And how I’m going to afford my class ring
I spend my days turning knobs
Occasionally going to the lake to listen to the sing
And when things get really bad, I try not to sob
Because I know one day I’ll be on my own
And then I’ll have my own home
They often think of no work
And nothing but play
Now everyone can shirk
It’s nothing like the beginning of May
Once that bell rings, everything becomes quirk
The flowers and the grass all bloom with pride
And now you always have your best friend by your side
But when I think of summer I don’t think of those things
I think about my summer job
And how I’m going to afford my class ring
I spend my days turning knobs
Occasionally going to the lake to listen to the sing
And when things get really bad, I try not to sob
Because I know one day I’ll be on my own
And then I’ll have my own home
