A friend and former YWS user told me about this website where one can 'adopt a word,' in order to prevent it from extinction from the english language. I went to Google, looked it up, and found this:

http://www.savethewords.org/

I adopted villiorate: to become less good or to deteriorate.

So get adopting! Save the words! :D Let us know what word you've taken into your care. :P

Medioxumate - Of Gods and Intermediate rankings between Heaven.

It sounded good but not even sure how to use it.
You poor take courage
You rich take care
This earth was made a common treasury
For everyone to share
All things in common
All people one
We come in peace
The orders came to cut them down

This is admirable, but prescriptive and descriptive linguists will do as they do. :smt002

I petition to make "fun" extinct from the English language. I think I'll try and get a site just for that made.

I wish you luck, methinks you'll be unsuccessful. :P

Anyone else adopted a word?

Wow! Not only is this an interesting website, but it's certainly an intriguing concept! I haven't adopted a word yet, but I'm trying to think of the right one to adopt -- a word that "speaks to me." LOL.

I think what's heartbreaking is that the use of net speak and short-hand is eliminating many of the advanced terms out there that decorate and beautify our language. Let's hope that the "adopt a word" helps the cause. Thanks for sharing the info, Moo (what a cute name!). ;)

Aw, thank you. :3 Yours is sweet too.

I'm glad everyone is finding this so interesting. I'm thinking of starting up a contest for this. Perhaps writing a story with the title of the word you adopted and based upon the word, or the like. I don't know yet :P
