Notes: This was part of a short story series I was working on. I was planning on having a bunch of writing, all following a similar story line and plot. what I got, however, was a lot of snippets and sections which don't connect or relate in any way. They were, however, fun to write.
Also, Chae is short for Michaela and is pronounced there as: "Kay"

She clutched the hammer tightly as she lugged herself across the grass. It had been a long day and she was on her way back to the garden shed.
The sun beat down on her dark hair, causing her to walk faster, which exhausted her even more.
It was quiet as she stopped, thinking she had heard a voice, when a boy with semi-short black hair sprinted past her, knocking her to the ground.
"Hey!"
He stopped as the cold voice called after him, sending a slight shiver down his back, even in the autumn heat.
"I'd stop to chat but-"
"But nothing," she spat, dusting herself off and heading towards the boy.
He glanced over her shoulder. spying the two husky boys, their fists clenched.
She, too, then turned to see the boys and as they approached her, she turned, sending a warning glance at the shorter youth as he made an attempt to run.
"Can I help you two with something?" she asked, swinging the large, rusted hammer upwards and allowing it to rest in both of her hands.
"Yeah, that twerp right there behind you?" the taller said, pointing a beefy finger at the younger.
"What about him?"
"Just let us have him." he continued, trying to push the girl from his path.
"This?" She turned, pointing with her thumb at the black haired boy. "This-this right here?"
Her ears shot up as she head him whisper something. Chae then raised her hammer to the taller boy's stomach, poking him slightly.
"Tell you what; You guys head back to your dorms and I'll pumble him instead."
The two grinned at each other. As they walked away, she could hear them laugh and snicker.
She then turned her attention to the grinning boy, whose expression change drastically as her hands tightened around the hammer.
"Ah, crap." And he was off running, Chae close behind.

She chased him into the boy's dorm, weaving through hallways. People stopped to observe the tiring boy as he sprinted up the stairs.
"Come back here you little bastard!" she called after him just as they ran past Rev.
His head shot up from the math book him and his friend were leaned over as the two passed, Chea's venomous voice ringing through the hall.
He grinned sheepishly, closing the book and handing it to his friend.
"Would you excuse me for one moment?" And he was off running as well.
The boy tripped, rolling onto his back and pushing himself away with his hands until he came into contact with the trophy case. She towered over him, bringing the hammer back, but was stopped, as she couldn't pull it forward.
"Chae, release," the voice was calm and quiet, causing her elbows to drop.
"Chae," it warned again.
After a moment, he allowed the hammer to fall to her side. She glared down at the terrified boy before throwing it at his gut, the impact causing him to choke slightly.
"The hell was that about?"
Chae turned to face Rev, her bangs in front of her eyes. "Nothing."
"It sure as hell didn't look like nothing to me!" he stepped around her, bringing the breathless boy to his feet.
"What did you do?"
"What did I do? she's the one that came after me!"
Chae shot him another icy glare before Rev led her off towards his dorm, leaving the poor child to run crying to his room.

That was slightly confusing. You can actually slow down, and describe more. Your description was great at the begging, but somehow got lost later on, leading to my confusion.
Really, you should add emotion as well. Without emotion, a piece is usually lacking.

Hey Broken, I'm here to review!

First off, I've got some nitpicks,

The sun was beating down on her dark hair, causing her to walk faster, which exhausted her even more.

Since the rest is past tense, 'the sun beat down' should be too

And she had-a boy with semi-short black hair sprinted past her, knocking her to the ground.

This hyphen should be there.

She chased him into the boy's dorm, weaving through hallways.

Hallways should be one word.

His head shot up from the math book him and his friend were leaned over as the two passed, Chea's venomous voice ringing through the hall

I believe you meant 'passed'

He grinned sheepishly, closing the book and handed it to his friend.

This should be 'handed'

The boy tripped, rolling onto his back and pushing himself away with his hands until he came into contact with the trophy case. She towered over him, bringing the hammer back, but was stopped, as she couldn't pull it forward.

Wait whaaaat? She wants to hit the boy with the hammer only because he bumped into her earlier? That seems a bit violent...

Overall, I want to know more about the plot line :) There's not much here but I'm hoping you will elaborate on it in the next posts. The only thing, as mentioned above, that was bugging me was the violent act this girl was about to commit? Does she have a violent past? Is she the tough one? Or is there an ulterior reason for this 'beating'? If yes, you might want to mention it with more descriptions because, I have to admit, I'm a bit shocked with this. We don't know a lot about what's happening exactly. That's the only thing that I have to say :) Can't wait to see more. Keep it up!

Hey there! Welcome to YWS and I hope you enjoy your time here! :D

So, you described this as a snippet in your author's note, and that's certaintly what it feels like. The thing is, because of it's snippeteyness (yes, I just made up that word :smt003) the reader gets thrown into the action straight away without any introduction, and so at the moment this is very confusing. It certaintly has a lot of potential but if you want to use this as the beginning of the novel, it's best to have just enough mysteries and things that people don't yet understand so that the reader is intruiged and wants to read on, but not so much that it's difficult to figure out what on earth is going on. And, from a first reading, that's the way I felt. I'm gonna go through this and point out the things you need to change because I think once this is cleared up it'll be massively improved. :smt001

She clutched the hammer tightly as she drug herself across the grass.

For starters, who is this 'she'? Not revealing the name of a character is fair enough if you have a reason for keeping the identity secret, but you tell us her name later, so I don't there is one here. Why not tell us Chae's name straight away? It's a little thing but having a name to associate with this character helps the reader feel involved and establishes a connection with the character straight away. :)

Hmm, 'drug'? That doesn't really make sense in this context. Maybe you meant 'dragged'?

"Hey!"
He stopped as the cold voice called after him, sending a slight shiver down his back, even in the autumn heat..

This dialogue exchanged is another part that is difficult to understand as it is, but could be cleared up pretty easily. Looking over it, I can see that it's Chae saying "Hey!", but when I first read it I had no idea who was saying it. And then it's followed by "the cold voice", which also doesn't specify who. Putting a "she said" after "hey" would solve this person, or you could change it to "Chae's cold voice". These are just suggestions but I do think they would help clarify.

"Chae, release," the voice was calm and quiet, causing her elbows to drop.

This is Rev's voice, right? But you can't just refer to it as "the voice" because "the" assumes that readers already know about this voice, which they don't. This is the first point where Rev comes in, so it would be a good point to tell us his name and maybe a little about who he is.

After a moment, he allowed the hammer to fall to her side.

Because at this point the only male character in the room we've been told about is the boy, I automatically assumed that it was the boy you were talking about here when I first read it. If it's Rev then you need to say so.

"It sure as hell didn't look like nothing to me!" he stepped around her, bringing the breathless boy to his feet.
"What did you do?"

If you start a new line of dialogue it means a new person is speaking. But, looking over the conversation it's Rev that's asking the boy what he did. Maybe? If so, you don't need to start a new line here, and doing so throws off the reader.

Right! So, overall, I do like this. It's an interesting scene and I'd like to know more about who these people are and why there's a girl runnning round with a hammer. But you really do need to properly introduce the characters so that people can follow what's going on. As well as this, I'd like to know more details. Why is Chae chasing this boy? It seems like a very violent response to a small provocation. It would be nice to know more about what Chae is thinking and feeling as she runs, so we get some clues to why all this is happening.

Seeing as this is posted in the novel forum, I'm going to take this as the opening of a novel. And in an opening there are several key things that happen: we're introduced to the characters, we're introduced to the setting and the plot starts to be set up. In this, we have characters, but we don't have proper introductions; we don't even get names at first. Some description of appearance would be nice, so we can picture the characters and start to get to know them. As for setting, there are a few details - it's sunny, there's a boarding school - but little more. Is this a fantasy world? Is it set on Earth? Do they live in a city or a town? The plot on the other hand gets going straight away. This isn't nescessarily a bad thing but you've set a breathless pace and it's difficult to understand what's going on. At the same time, some questions, such as why Chae is running round carrying a huge hammer, are never adressed.

Anyway, as you can see I have a tendancy to ramble on. Hopefully you haven't gone to sleep. :D Really though, I guess the review could be summed up in two words: slow down. Slow down and make it a bit easier for us to figure out what's going on. Other than that this is a promising beginning.

Keep writing, and PM me if you have any questions or anything! :)
