Heyo Pink, Jai here on behalf of 1/4th of the Four Musketeers :3

Ivory held the end of the candle stick holder, gripping it with all her strength as she pointed it at the tall woman.

What era is this set in? My mind pictured today/futurist, and yet here is a woman with a candle?

The woman was unnaturally tall, with the bluest eyes in the world and hair so red, you’d think it was on fire half the time.

Lavira also has blue eyes and red hair. I think you need to vary your descriptions a tad. Wait, what? Sorry, is Ivory describing Lavira? I don't think that's necessary, if so. You've already described Lavira's looks before.

Her body cried to be held, such psychic even had Ivory’s father going mad over her.

Psychic? Google defines psychic as: a person apparently sensitive to things beyond the natural range of perception. Perhaps you mean "physical presence". I know the word you're looking for, but it eludes me at this time. Sorry.

But the woman wasn’t just another female her father brought home to pass time, she was different, she had a motive. Lavira wasn’t here to be sugar daddy’s girl. Oh no, she was here for something else.

This confused me because I didn't connect this with Ivory's point of view. I thought Lavira was thinking of herself in third person.

The basement was off limits, it was filled with antique pieces, some which were priceless and not just any woman was allowed down there.

It might be just me and the families I have been around, but priceless pieces are always on display, in glass cabinets, hanging on walls, or packed away in safes. Not lying around in a basement.

“For the Glass Vase of course,” she answered matter-of-factly.

Wait, the Glass Vase was in a basement, and Crosse needed some middle man (well, woman in this case) to retrieve it for him? I think this is a case of plot convenience - do you really even need Lavira?

Ivory couldn’t say anything, she was under the woman’s influence and even if she wanted to take an action to hurt her, she couldn’t because compared to her, she had no power. There was an animalistic trait to the woman that beckoned the upmost fear in Ivory, a sensation that she never felt before, something tearing and deep. As if there was a knife pointed directly at her and if she dared to take one step forward, the blade would pierce through her chest and cut her open.

I appreciate what you're doing here, it's a really neat idea. Maybe you could mention something about her being paralyzed etc, like a deer caught in headlights. You'd have to do some research about why they do pause, but I think that's the same effect that you want. Alternatively, Snoink showed me some awesome footage of "fainting sheep" which might give you some ideas.

White, snow-like hair frizzled over his head like a mad man, but his face was handsome.

All I can think is David Bowie from The Labyrinth. And I'm loving Crosse's character because of it.

They were barely visible unless looked at carefully and Ivory was an artist, she had a gift for seeing things no one else could see.

Ahh, nice explanation.

“Crosse,” Lavira moaned. “What’s going on?”

Seems out of character for her to whine.

“The Vase is just an object, the power it holds can neither be destroyed, nor is it impossible for it to perish. The key must have been transferred…”

Oooh, fantastic chance to explain that magical power is like energy - it can't be destroyed, only transformed/transferred.

“Do you remember, thirteen hundred years ago, the Glass Vase used to be a Spear? That was before the spear burned and the key was transferred to the next safest object, a vase.”

I wish you had used different objects. Like, perhaps, Thor's Hammer/Poseidon's Trident --> Holy Grail --> Pandora's Box. Would be ultimately awesome story. This story is great so far.

His cold fingers pushed back her tangled brown hair and there was a shocking vibration that ruled itself against her skin as he touched her.

Ruled against her skin?

She didn’t have a clue what these people were talking about but if her life was on the line.

You said something similar to this earlier.

“Think of yourself as a martyr,” he suggested, coldly. “If you valued your life you shouldn’t have broken the vase in the first place.”

Google says, "one who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty for refusing to renounce their religion", or, "one who suffers for the sake of principle". I assume you're using the second meaning. What principle did she uphold by breaking the vase accidentally?

“That doesn’t matter now, does it?” He reached behind him and pulled out a golden pocket watch. “What time suites you, my dear? I’ll let you have your say, although, I can only give you an hour at most.”
“No time! There’s no time that suites my death right now,” she cried between her snivels.

* suits

Her eyes were stricken with thick droplets of tears and with a nose so red, she looked like Rudolf.

Slightly comical for the situation, don't you think? :haha:

He swept his tongue over his straight white teeth and leaned in, slowly unbuttoning Ivory’s checked shirt. A rush of cold air touched her chest as he revealed the tender skin of her collar bone.

I love your imagery. I don't mean to sound perverted, but you wrote this scene far better than most published author's would.

Wow, love the cliff-hanger at the end. Really looking forward to reading the rest of this :D

This was an excellent chapter- the only thing I found was "psychic" was supposed to be "physique". Other than that, I think you have a very well balanced piece. I would consider some more description from Ivory towards the end, when dealing with the man, but otherwise, I think this was perfect. I personally had no trouble with the POV, and thought it was smooth- there were some phrasing issues that seemingly mentioned, but otherwise, I didn't experience of the same problems. Very nice job.

Wonderfully penned. c:

Pink! I'm heeeeeeeeeeeeeere!

Sorry for the delay, it's movie day for me !hahaha

Well, this chapter is good. I would love a little more from Ivory. I found her thoughts and even actions jumbled and incoherent. It just....Seems forced sometimes. Maybe because you started a little too late in the story. Maybe have Ivory and Lavira interacting before. Have Ivory be suspicious and show us why she is. Show her BE Sebastien's daughter. Cause right now you're only telling us all this. She followed Lavira, because no one's allowed in the basement? Was she watching her previously? Did she simply happen to see her go down?

And at first, she was able to speak, but suddenly, she can't because she's under Lavira's influence? And what about the setting? Are they just standing around talking? What's happening?

I really liked the second part with Crosse but the first one needs a little work. Maybe start it a little earlier. I really like the whole transfer thing, but if Ivory could wonder if Crosse was a pervert, why couldn't you have her wonder whether she should tell the truth about the vase? Is she afraid her thoughts will be 'heard'?

And in all, love the second part, first needs help, but I really like we're you are going with this. Can't wait to read some more, hope this was helpful.

Thanks for inviting me in your world !!

Hey guys! Super thanks for the reviews :)

Jai Thanks for the review! You pointed out a lot of mistakes and I've gone through and fixed them ;)
I never actually have never watched The Labyrinth, but I took a look at the video and he does remind me of Crosse XD Except, Crosse has shorter hair ;P I'm also thinking about the Holy grail and stuff, it's actually a good idea and I might try to add that to the story. Of course I will have to do some research but it could work out. Also, I'm glad you liked my descriptions! haha, no, I don't think your prevy :D Thanks for the review!

Coral That's the word I was looking for! Ugh, I was like, what is it? I even kept spelling it wrong. Thank you for pointing that out, haha. Sorry, about the minimal description with Ivory, I was afraid to scare away readers with long chapters but I'll go on and fix that since you weren't the only person to mention it, so I guess it needs to be addressed.

Tanya Hey, Tanya, thanks for the review! I get what you mean by starting off too late. I guess it's because I honestly wanted this story to be in more of Crosse's perceptive but it did turn out a bit weird, didn't it? I'll work on that, thank you :)

Thanks again!

So, I got bored with work and decided to look on YWS for something to read (because I need to get back into the habit of reading and reviewing) and I read the first line of your story ... then the next ... and the next... C: Seriously, although someone said earlier (sorry, I can't remember who) that you may have started it a bit late, I suppose you wanted to reel the reader in? Well, that worked. I have a not-so-secret soft spot for drama and confrontations... That's when most writers shine when writing that. But I didn't like this bit:
It was precisely that reason which had Ivory following her down to the basement of the Westchester family mansion. The basement was off limits, it was filled with antique pieces, some which were priceless to the family and not just any woman was allowed down there.
Might just be me being reeeeally nit-picky, but I kind of fell out of the story a bit here. You had the confrontation going on and then this sudden explanation. If it's so important, why did you not start it earlier on? Like, following her to where ever she was going. Or just state bluntly, "I followed you." It's not so info-ish, then... Hmm, I don't know. It's definitely not an info-dump, but it sticks out because you're describing what's happening then and then jump to the past. I hope I make sense?
I wont go through this line by line (or you'll hate me ;P) but toward the end, a few things jumped out at me.
“Just get this over with,” Lavira pointed out, agitated, What is she pointing out? She's not telling him about something he missed. It's nothing like "You forgot about the blue flower," blah blah pointed out. She's just nagging him to hurry up. C: “Crosse, just kill her.”
“Well, there’s no point in letting you suffer. So he's talking to Ivory now? It's pretty obvious by what he's saying, I know, but you might just want to make it concrete with an action involving Ivory. Like ... Well, most people go for the eye connecting thingy, or you might want him to touch her cheek since Ivory thinks he's a perv?? I feel bad enough already,” he whispered, although his attempt at pity was unmistakably forged. He swept his tongue over his straight white teeth and leaned in, slowly unbuttoning Ivory’s checked shirt. A rush of cold air touched her chest as he revealed the tender skin of her collar bone. I think someone already mentioned how awesome this is..? ;D
With a shaking voice, she asked, “What are you doing?” Was this man a pervert? Who were these people? What in the world had they been talking about? Questions feel forced. Wouldn't she have thought of the latter, like, in the first two seconds she woke up? She felt as if she was part of bad nightmare, something crazy and unreal that she wanted to pinch herself awake and forget. Yet,I don't think you need this comma.. the count continued to lean in, his lips slowly parting and his sharp teeth were nowinches away from her. [His] Cold breaths touched her skin and she trembled unwillingly.
“Forgive me, this might hurt,” hisShould be "he" apologized Iffff I was to be reallllly picky, I'd wonder why he was apologising when he obviously doesn't care about her at all. Your MC already picked up on how he was insincere with his words so it was a bit confusing when she didn't pick up on it this time. So does he really mean it this time??. “In order to take the key, I’ll have to eat your heart.” Yum. Dramatic last line much?? LOVE it. ;D It certainly made me want to keep on reading. Ha, you are amazing with first and last lines.

That's why I don't do many line by lines.... S: I'm just a too nit-picky person.. Sorry... But I did really enjoy this, and thought I'd tell you what I thought so that you could PM me when you put up more..? Pretty please? I love the potential of an amazing plot here (and more brilliant first and last lines ;D)! Don't disappoint.. ;D Ha ha Looking forward to more!

Hello there!

Here as requested. :3

First of all, I thank you for the request and don't worry, you can always ask a review from me. And I think it's not needed for me to do a line by line anymore, since I think the previous reviewers above me have pretty covered up those errors already.
So, here it goes.

The idea of this piece is fantastic and interesting. And did I already mention how you're good at cliffhangers? You make your readers crave for more. The originality you have here is one of the best things I salute you. In addition, you show don't tell, a plus point in your piece. You've described your character's surroundings and imageries are almost good. And speaking of characters, I'm starting to be in love with Crosse, I even think he's better than Edward though you've mentioned before that he is not a vampire *laughs*. Anyways, I just want to know more about Ivory. You need more depictions about her, methinks. Her background and don't just say about her Grandmother. I mean, why it was her? Does she have a brother or a sister? <<---I'm just curious, so you can ignore that. haha.

And speaking of grammars, I find it pretty neat and clean. You have taken consideration of your critique's suggestion and that's a good thing, you know. However, I'm just going to nitpick something:

“Forgive me, this might hurt,” he apologized.

When you say "Forgive me", it's understandable that Crosse is apologizing. So, I think it's too repetitive if you mentioned "apologize" as your speech tag. Or that's just me? *laughs again*

So, all in all, I thank you for the good read. This is definitely interesting to read. And I'm going to apologize if ever you see this review "not" helpful, because I don't think I have any negative comments to type. Hope I helped and PM me for questions.

Keep writing!

Peace out!

Good day, again! It's Azrael at your service on this fine evening as part of the regiment known famous as the Four Musketeers. Let's us begin this review! (And I may find my sister was indeed right.)

“Who are you, really?” she asked curiously, yet even if she was aiming for a strong voice, her words trembled.

This is too long an explanation of how she spoke. I suggest either taking off the "curiously" or taking off the second half.

The woman was unnaturally tall, with the bluest eyes in the world and hair so red, you’d think it was on fire half the time.

What did it look like the other half? Like charcoal?

Paralyzed, she dropped the candle holder and watched helplessly as the woman dove towards her.

Dove? It... just doesn't seem like the right word here. I don't know why. Maybe because the image in my head is of a lady about to crash-tackle poor Ivory.

Numbness is all she felt.

Was.

From her toes to the tip of her fingers, an uncomfortable feeling sat.

Reverse this: "... sat an uncomfortable feeling."

Of course, half of that was because she was tied to a chair with a cloth digging into the corners of her lips.

The word cloth made me wonder for a second. You should probably replace it with "gag" so people understand exactly what the cloth is.

Her thick Harry Potter glasses were lopsided across her nose and made her itchy.

"Were" is a such a simple word... perhaps you could replace it were "sat" or something along those lines?

She didn’t know where she was, it seemed like a very expensive hotel room with a large crimson door and a nice view of the clock tower from outside the city of London.

Should probably start a new sentence here.

Slowly, she lifted her eyes, afraid.

Contradiction. You said she was beyond fear and now she's scared again.

Heels clanged as Lavira walked in wearing a mini red dress that matched the exact hue of her hair.

Clanked would sound better.

Yet the count continued to lean in, his lips slowly parting and his sharp teeth inches away from her.

Count? What?

Overall:
I concede to my sister's views. This story is very interesting. I don't have much else to say about this. You have good characters, but don't forget to keep yourself clear of contradictions; they are very confusing to any reader. Anyway, your plot is developing well and I really enjoy Crosse, he's my favourite character so far. :D Also, the other woman, who's name eludes me, (not Ivory) seems a little hysteric - perhaps you should tone her down a little? Keep on writing, your pretty goddamned good! :P

Have A Nice Day,
Azrael.

So, I found this part more believable. I'm also liking it. I have a small thing for evil characters. I also like your writing style. You have enough description and emotion to make your writing really strong, and I really enjoyed it.
Your spelling and grammar are good

Hey Pink,
Once again, your writing has perplexed me in the best way possible. You are an amazing writer young lady, superb!
But, I have to be honest, otherwise what is my review to you without honesty?
I loved your prologue, love love loved it! It left me wanting so much more, and I am really not a fan of the whole demonic genre, its just like eh to me, but your prologue was good, really good, I loved how you described Crosse, now is it pronounced Cross? Or something else entirely that I'm just not getting? His character is great evil but not totally off-putting evil.
Lavira, snippy little bitch huh? She's ok, I agree that you need to desbribe her in a new way, besides red hair and blue eyes, but hey I'm at fault there alot too. I do wonder what her purpose is, exactly. What is she to Crosse, besides a gofer?
Ivory, what a cool name, she's ok too, I hope that Crosse doesn't kill her, because she seems to be your protaganist...well I think she is, but that might be entirely different to you.
I love that characters names, I'm into that whole weird name kinda thing myself, I am always jealous of your descriptions in every work that you do, its crazy good!
Can't wait to read more!

Hey, Pink! Here I am again!

Well, I actually have nothing to say but this is really a good chapter and in general, this is an excellent story! :D Anyway, the line: “Well, well,” he said with a sinister smile. “What do we have here?” was a total cliché XD. The last line is epic! It's so...heartless. o.o Um, I have to say that you cut the momentum at the end there. I wonder what happens. Ivory couldn't possibly die already at the next chapter. She 'has' the power a.k.a. the key. Dunno xD.

You already have a lot of reviews here so I have nothing else to say. So, ciao! I promise to make helpful reviews when you start continuing this. ;)

Spoiler
Ivory held the end of the candle stick holder, gripping it with all her strength [I'd mention white knuckles instead of just saying "with all her strength". Think it's more evocative] as she pointed it at the tall woman. “Who are you, really?” she asked curiously.

“I told you, I’m Lavira,” she answered with a smirk. Her foot lifted as she took another step closer. “Sweetheart, please put down that down, you’ll hurt yourself.”

“Why are you in here?” Ivory asked, keeping her eyes on her. The woman was unnaturally tall, [See my last review regarding "to be" in descriptions] with the bluest eyes in the world and hair so red, you’d [Me? The reader? Not a fan of using "you" in this way, even in creative prose] think it was on fire half the time. Her body cried to be held, such physique even had Ivory’s father going mad over her. [Okay, THIS is a good description! Very good!] But the woman wasn’t just another female her father brought home to pass time, [Are these Ivory's thoughts? It'd be very icky for me to think of my dad bringing girls home "to pass the time"] she was different, she had a motive. Ivory knew Lavira wasn’t here to be sugar daddy’s girl, she was here for something else.

It was precisely that reason which had Ivory following her down to the basement of the Westchester family mansion. The basement was off limits, it was filled with antique pieces, some which were priceless to the family and not just any woman was allowed down there. [Split this sentence up a bit, it's a tad on the long side]

“For the Glass Vase, of course,” she answered matter-of-factly. After looking around the twenty acre property, Lavira was sure it would be in the basement somewhere. [Uh-oh. We're getting the thoughts of more than one person? Third-person omniscient is dangerous, be careful]

“Glass Vase?”

“You have it don’t you? The Glass Vase which holds the first key.”

Biting her lip, she quickly shook her head. “There’s nothing here,” she lied. But she knew what Lavira was talking about. Last week her Grandmother passed away, leaving a magnificent glass vase under Ivory’s name.

“You’re lying,” Lavira hissed. “The vase is here and if you don’t tell me, I’ll have to do something bad, not just to you, but to your entire family.”

Slowly, her heart thumped, beating like a drum. No one had ever dared to blackmail the daughter of Sebastian [Delicious name] Westchester before. Ivory couldn’t say anything, she was under the woman’s influence and even if she wanted to take an action to hurt her, she couldn’t. Compared to her, she had no power. There was an animalistic trait to the woman that beckoned [Not sure if I'd use the word "beckoned". Something like "summoned" feels more fitting here] the upmost fear in Ivory, a sensation that she never felt before, something tearing and deep. As if there was a knife pointed directly at her and if she dared to take one step forward, the blade would pierce through her chest and cut her open.

“It’s not here. It’s broken,” Ivory confessed.

Lavira’s face twisted and she snarled, “How is that even possible? The vase cannot be broken!”

“Well, I broke it.” She instinctively took a step back, afraid the woman would pounce on her. “We put the vase in the main hall, I ran into it a few days ago and it shattered.”

“You bitch! My life is on the line because of that!” Lavira launched herself at her. With outstretched fingers and long red painted nails, she looked like a tigress. So vicious, even her clenched teeth look as if they had fangs, so sharp and deadly that Ivory didn’t have a clue what to do. Paralyzed, she dropped the candle holder and watched helplessly as the woman dove towards her.

***

Numbness was all she felt. From her toes to the tip of her fingers, sat [Not my choice word here] an uncomfortable feeling. Of course, half of that was because she was tied to a chair with a cloth gag digging into the corners of her lips. Her thick Harry Potter glasses sat lopsided across her nose and made her itchy. She desperately wanted to fix them but her hands were constricted behind the chair with a thick rope. Her feet, which were tied to each leg of the chair, were beginning to burn and even if she couldn’t see them, she knew they were probably turning purple. She didn’t know where she was. It seemed like a very expensive hotel room with a large crimson door and a nice view of the clock tower from outside the city of London. She sniffed, sucking in a scent of cologne; it smelled nice…probably as expensive as a one night stay in this hotel room.

She was beyond fear at this point. Whatever happened next was in the hands of God and there wasn’t much she could do in her state. With all that being said, she sat still, waiting for whatever it was.

Finally, after what seemed like hours, there was a sound. The clicking of the front door as it opened. Slowly, she lifted her eyes, as fear came knocking back into her. If Lavira were to show up again, she wasn’t so sure what she would do. She would beg for forgiveness maybe give her money or give her anything to save her life and her family.

Damn, I knew she was witch from the first day Dad brought her home. [Switching to first person? I would put this into quotes or something. Very, very invasive. Add "she thought" to the end, or something like that]

Heels clanked as Lavira walked in wearing a mini red dress that matched the exact hue of her hair. She looked upset, angry at most but she kept her equanimity. Behind her, someone else revealed himself. He was shorter than Lavira and completely outlandish. White, snow-like [Snow-like meaning cold and puffy and with a tendency to melt? If you're only using "snow" here to mean "white", I'd get rid of the "snow-like" bit completely] hair frizzled over his head like a mad man, [I'm getting a very strong image of an old mad scientist right now] but his face was handsome. In fact, he looked only a few years older than her. Maybe he was twenty…or twenty one. But age wasn’t the strange thing about him, nor was it his albino hair. It was his eyes; they were gray and stood out like a cat’s. He wore these thin rectangular glasses which he took off quickly, giving her a deeper glance ["Deeper glance" feels like an oxymoron. A glance is supposed to be quick; a "deep" glance is something not of this universe] at his inhuman eyes.

“Well, well,” he said with a sinister smile. “What do we have here?” [Classic villain intro words]

She eyed the man up and down. His dark colored suit [Suite = set of rooms, suit = article of clothing] and collared shirt made him look like a count. As he widened his lips, showing his teeth she flinched, catching a glimpse of what looked like sharp canines. [Count-like, with fangs... Having a real trouble thinking this not a vampire] They were barely visible unless looked at carefully and Ivory was an artist, she had a gift for seeing things no one else could see.

“She’s just a kid,” he muttered, grazing [Not sure how this verb is supposed to work here] his eyes up and down her body.

Even if fear was long gone, even if all she felt was numbness and uncertainty she questioned who these people were and what they wanted from her.

“Ivory Westchester,” Lavira spat. “She’s the one who broke the Glass Vase.” The woman was fuming with anger, her cheeks were flushed red and it looked like she was on the verge of attacking Ivory just one more time.

The stranger leaned in front of Ivory, bucking his hands on his knees as he met her eyes. “Ivory, my dear, what have you done to the vase?”

When she didn’t move or reply, he carefully lifted his hand and untied the cloth from behind her head. Pushing up her glasses and sliding the long silk cloth from out her mouth, he gave her warm smile. “Tell me dear, what did you do?”

“I broke it. It’s shattered,” Ivory growled. “Now let me go!”

His jaw hardened and his cloudy eyes crackled as if there was lightning behind them. “The Vase cannot be broken.”

“Well, it is!”

“No,” he replied, squaring his shoulders and standing up straight.

“Crosse,” Lavira moaned. “What’s going on?”

“The Vase is just an object, the power it holds can neither be destroyed, nor is it impossible for it to perish. The key must have been transferred…”

“Transferred?” Lavira asked, puzzled.

He snapped his long fingers and gave a curve to his lips. “Precisely, the key must have absorbed itself in another form.” He turned to face Lavira. “Do you remember, thirteen hundred years ago, the Glass Vase used to be a Spear? That was before the spear burned and the key was transferred to the next safest object, a vase.”

Lavira’s expression suddenly brightened. “So the power or the key, it still exists?”

Crosse turned his head toward Ivory. “But of course.” His scarlet lips curved and she swore she could hear thunder cackle behind him. “Shall I test to see if it’s here?”

Lavira lifted a brow and followed his gaze towards Ivory. “Are you saying…she holds the key?”

Crosse walked back towards Ivory and lowered himself. ["Lowered himself" is too vague] His cold fingers pushed back her tangled brown hair and there was a shocking vibration that shook itself against her skin as he touched her.

“Ah. Yes.” His eyes melted as he stared into her. “It’s amazing how much power the first key can hold.”

Lavira tapped her lip. “But…if the magic is in her…that means she controls it, right?”

He snapped his head towards her. “Of course, that’s why I have to kill her and transfer the power into me.”

“What!” Ivory shouted. “You can’t. You can’t just kill me! I have a family, I have a life! There are still things I have to do!” [Hmm... Maybe it's just me, but this doesn't sound like a person about to die] Tears began to violently ["Violently" is the last word I would associate with tears] pour out of her eyes and unhealthy sobs choked at her throat. “Please, you can’t kill me, I beg you!” [That's more like it] She didn’t have a clue what these people were talking about but if her life was on the line. [This sentence ends kind of in the middle of nowhere. "...but if her life was on the line", then what?] Well, she could only plead to be saved.

His expression didn’t change. The lust of power still overlapped any sympathy he could have, or could ever muster. “Think of yourself as a martyr, or an offering,” he suggested, coldly. [I would use a synonym for "said" here instead. By saying "suggested" after, well, having Crosse suggest something, you're repeating what you've already said] “If you valued your life you shouldn’t have broken the vase in the first place. At least you'll be doing me some good.”

“B-but I didn’t know. I didn’t know it was so important, I was careless!”

“That doesn’t matter now, does it?” He reached behind him and pulled out a golden pocket watch. “What time suits you, my dear? I’ll let you have your say, although, I can only give you an hour at most.”

“No time! There’s no time that suits my death right now,” she cried between her snivels. Her eyes were stricken with thick droplets of tears.

“Just get this over with,” Lavira pointed out, agitated, “Crosse, just kill her.”

“Well, there’s no point in letting you suffer. [Hoooooot]

With a shaking voice, she asked, “What are you doing?” Was this man a pervert? Who were these people? What in the world had they been talking about? She felt as if she was part of bad nightmare, something crazy and unreal that she wanted to pinch herself awake and forget. Yet Crosse continued to lean in, his lips slowly parting and his sharp teeth inches away from her. Cold breaths touched her skin and she trembled unwillingly.

“Forgive me, this might hurt,” he apologized. [Again, here you're just re-iterating the fact that he apologized, it's already obvious from the "forgive me" part. I'd just use "said"] “In order to take the key, I’ll have to eat your heart.” [....not hot]

The spoiler above contains my full text critique. My comments are in [red brackets], and any changes I made to specific words are highlighted in red.

Right now, I think you're rushing things just a little bit. I don't yet have any sort of connection with the MC. Of course, describing useless scenes of the MC and her father and the father's current girl-toy having dinner and working out issues between each other is, well, useless, I'd still appreciate some throwbacks in her lines/thoughts to her normal life. It would make her more human, easier to relate to.

Lavira (I always have an urge to type Latvia for some reason) is losing her aura of cool power. I don't know if you intended it in the first place, but she's making a different impression on me now than she had in the prologue. She seems much less in control of herself than she was before. Then again, I don't know how much time has passed between the prologue and this chapter, so perhaps some things have happened to influence this change.

I know that in my own stories, I make a point not to describe any of my characters (unless necessary), and, in fact, break some of my own suggestions that I make in my reviews (not because I'm a hypocrite, just because I'm a terrible editor of my own work). However, as this is a longer work, I would still like to know what the MC looks like. So far I don't know anything other than "Harry Potter glasses". Now, because I'm starved for descriptions, my mind tends to make things up based on stereotypes around such glasses. Case in point: I see a chubby girl with short, bowl-cut hair and a pudgy little face, usually wearing a brown sweater and the ugliest skirt you've ever seen. And, of course, the aforementioned glasses, which have somehow (in my imagination) grown to be much thicker than the glasses the "real" Harry Potter wore.

So far, the Devil's Pocket Watch is strongest in its development of antagonists, and weakest in environment development. Now, I don't mean your magic system or mythic beasts or anything, since we don't know anything about that yet - I mean more along the lines of the world in which the MC lives. What are her troubles? Her triumphs? What does she like, what does she dislike? What kind of person is she? It is difficult to get that much information across about a character in this timespan, but I firmly believe you can do it. Leave little breadcrumbs here and there so that the puzzle eventually comes together without us ever having to solve it.

Regardless of my criticism, overall, I liked this chapter a lot. Am a fan. Go ahead and shoot me a PM if you have any comments/questions. Best of luck.

Hey there Pink! I love your work, very imaginative. Your writing is still a little bit rough but who's isn't? ;) I loved it so far, I'm not really a fan of vampire, demon stuff but this seems decent as far as I can tell. The storyline is very interesting too though it seems like I know too much of it already. I would suggest letting us know a little less. It would be interesting if we had this antagonist (maybe he could have made a few mistakes to begin with) killing people and no one can find him or discover why he's doing it. It'd be more of a mystery that way and would draw the reader in more as he/she would want to know what's happening. As it is, we know quite a bit. We know he's a demon that wants to be the next devil, we know what he's after, we know she holds the first key, and obviously he knows just about everything too such as where the keys are and how they work. I would say, don't reveal anything. Just a thought.
As for the critiques, I won't say anything about the writing, that kinda thing is too detailed and somewhat pointless at this stage. And since I've already written what I think you should do with the story, I'll point out the one other thing that stood out for me; passive sentences.
I'm part of a writer's guild out here (nothing special but tons of fun :) ) but they point this out alot. for example

"The woman was fuming with anger"

This tends to break up the action as it is not active. I would change it to, "The woman fumed with anger." This makes the read a bit smoother and keeps the action of the moment. The more tension, the better. Shorter sentences like this tend to make a reader become engaged and feel as though they're included in the moment. Passive has a tendency of making the reader feel as though he/she is merely watching from the sidelines. Also, watch your "Was" "Were" and "ing" words.

Anyways, sorry for the lesson, I get it alot and I enjoy sharing what I learn. Good work, I'll be waiting for the next installment!

I am deeply disturbed by your ability to meow.
