Chorus:
Tell me what do you do
Once the summer is through
(woooaahhh)
On a mission to find
Brand new school supplies
(woooaahhh)
I done gone on vacation and relaxed
Had lots of fun times in the sun (fun in the sun)
But now I’m a student with scholarly intent
And school year’s begun

School year’s begun 7X

Verse 1
Listen
Really what can you think
When your life’s on the brink
‘tween hanging all day to
trek through hallways that stink.
I done all my own work
I done studied a lot
I feel tired already
from reading books and blogs.
Look how I’m buying my notebooks
Look how I’m buying my pens
I don’t get nothing but “Pilots”
Cause they’re the best pen there is.
All this new stuff cost a ton
Can get in situations
But have no worries I got
plenty of Hamiltons.
There is no way to stop me.
I’m just a student machine.
I work hard to get where
my path will maybe lead.
Preparin’ for a college
It may be miles away
My pencils will be sharpened
I also live for today.
Today a new year starts up
Full of possibilities
Of clubs and sports and classes
And of lunchin’ with homies.
I wave goodbye to summer
But not too sad to see it gone
‘Cause this year’s going to rock
from homecoming to the prom.

chorus repeat

Verse 2
It’s easy to hate
All those lockers and classes,
But ya’ll best understand
Life ain’t through rose-colored glasses.
Yellow limos they pull up,
School bells are all warmed up,
Mothers all across the world
so sad their kids are all grown up.
Cameras flash everywhere,
“Oh my God’s!” fill the air,
People talking, they buzzing
about the principal’s hair.
Dress codes violated,
Summer homework is graded,
Awkward teacher/student convos
as they get more acquainted.
You’ve been seeing me lately,
I’m full of school spirit baby.
Cause our football team’s beast.
They’ll kill whomever we play, yeah
So, we raise the school colors,
black and blue now ya’ll holla!
Gettin’ ready for a year
that’s bigger and better not smaller.
Now ain’t you happy it’s started?
One step closer ‘til you’re done.
Just 180 days of school until
a summer full of fun.

chorus repeat (again)

Verse 3/Bridge??!
So I will see you at school (school)
Or maybe in the car pool (pool)
We’re going to party with all of our friends!
So get out your backpack
and your after school snack
Because this party will never end!
Still lunchin’ (lunchin’)
still moving (moving)
music plays (plays)
still grooving
For my homies and my bffls and my thugs
be prepared cause the school year’s begun!

School year’s begun like 7X to the end
A man can change his stars.

Awesome! Very entertaining. Just a couple quick notes:

First of all, this line:

I don’t get nothing but “Pilots”
Cause they’re the best pen there is.

It made me laugh, but it seemed out of place. You're talking about all the stuff you're buying, school supplies in general, but then you go into brief detail about this pen before going back into general stuff. It just seemed to interrupt the song for a minute.

Also, this line:

they'll kill whomever we play

"Whomever" seems overly proper and at variance with the dialect/diction throughout the rest of the song. Yes, it's grammatically correct, but it doesn't really fit here. So feel free to break the rules of grammar! "Whoever," or even something else (I don't have any suggestions at the moment, at least not good ones, but something else), would work better in this case.

Overall, good job!

Thanks for the reviews!

I guess I just talked about the pen for a second because it went with buying school supplies and stuff. My friends and I actually have talked to each other about how great the Pilot pens are. Also thanks for the comment about being too proper. That's something I'm trying to work on with the rap parts. :)

Way, way back in the 1988 Presidential election, then Vice President George H W Bush had a phrase he liked to use: "A Thousand Points of Light." It refers to the idea that a community is made up of people who contribute in a thousand, different small ways, but with each helping to illuminate their community. It's a phrase I think about a lot when it comes to YWS. Looking forward, the site will continue to change and grow, but it will always remain a community dedicated to promoting creative writing as a favorite pastime.
