Nonsense Smile

I have noticed that writers at YWS enjoy very serious poems. Don't get me wrong, they are all very good. I thought I'd take my chances with a nonsense poem. I could be wasting both or our time, but hey, it's probably worth a shot! Enjoy

Nonsense Smile

Three pigs, a girl and a sign.
Yes I have learned to rhyme.
While fat ladies sing,
There's a square boxing ring.
A fully sung hero.
And upper class zero.
Money on trees.
Dogs on flees.
The dam under the duck.
The Irish luck.
A finger in the pie.
A pig in the sky.
A genie with two wishes.
Furry fishes.
Oh yes, i've learned to rhyme,
and what a better time
to say that I,
do greatly try,
to put a smile upon your face.

I like this - there is not nearly enough (good) nonsensical writing on this site.

That said, some opinionated advice:
- If you're going to write a nonsense poem, it should be really absurd, something that can't really make sense without contradicting itself. This poem seems somewhat as a poem a little kid would write who was just starting out and throwing out whatever rhyme came to mind. That doesn't make it bad, but it doesn't seem quite so nonsensical.

(I too have written a nonsense poem and put it up on 'Other Poetry,' so feel free to look at that if you'd like. It seems to have been well-received, to my surprise, haha.)

I actually liked this a lot! I understand that you were just rhyming nonsensically. but some lines were just not good enough and very dull.

Change these:
Money on trees.
Dogs on flees.
&
A genie with two wishes.
Furry fishes.

Loved these:
A fully sung hero.
And upper class zero.
&
The dam under the duck.
The Irish luck.
A finger in the pie.
A pig in the sky. (except I would edit a pig in the sky.) not fun enough.

Ooooooooo, I really liked that.
I love how all of it was completely relevant, and, you managed to make it rhyme. I really caught up on everything, and at at first I felt it was very random and didn't make any sense, but then as I continued you, I was like, "Oh."
So, clevah, eh? Hehe.

There, you made meh smile.

And, even the ending made sense. Sometimes when it's wavy in the beginning, you wonder where it'll go, and how strong the ending will be. But all of the randomness you somehow managed to mesh together, and make it make sense in the end.

So, I liked~~~ ^^

I really, really liked this. It was a really fun read and you did succeed in making me smile. It was so different from anything else I've read on this site. I like your originality.

Hehe, I liked this poem a lot! And I totally agree with you on the 'serious yws writers' thing, it's very refreshing to have a fun nonsense poem once in a while. Keep writing, with all that doom and gloom, we'll need someone like you.
