A sketch I drew, it took me a little over an hour and half to finish it.
Recently I've been studying anatomy and applying it to my drawing, hopefully I did this right. No reference was used, it's all from my cranium :D

By the way, if anyone has any ideas for a good name, I'd love to hear it :)

Pink,

First of all, I very much love the quote in your signature.

Second, my first impression of this was very positive. I really like the idea of the angel/dragon wings. And your shading and general anatomy of the man is fantastic!

But looking at it a little closer I noticed a couple things. I think the feather and the little design in the top right, while well done, are kind of distracting/ unnecessary. It kind of seems as though they're only there to take up space that really doesn't need to be filled. Also, the man's hipbones protrude a little too far...They look more like they're flab than bone :D haha. And last, it looks as though when you got to the second, bottom angel wing you were running out of steam and decided not to give it as much detail. It looks less feather-y and more scale-y than the other.

Otherwise, very good. I love! :)

Overall, the shading was good, the basic anatomy was good. However, I dislike how it seems to be so cluttered. I would remove the box and the flowery design. Also, I would make his legs extend to the very bottom and not end in that wavy-ish way.
Hmm, the hands, especially the fingers, seem to be at weird angles. As Viv just mentioned, the second wing is a little less detailed.

I really like the realistic stress lines of his jeans, and the stray feathers. the demonic wings are so much cooler than the angel wings, but I'm just that way.

What grade pencil did you use? I'm a little interested, since all my drawings are either too dark (when I use a soft lead) or far too shiny (with a normal pencil). I've been trying to find a medium medium (lol) but I just can't seem to do it.
Anyways, Kudos on this amazing piece of work. Likes!

Thanks, I totally get what you mean by that, I kinda wanted it to be a little cluttered though, I planned on doing some coloring and I wanted a more colorful background - but I'm still contemplating all that.
Actually, Jenthura, I just used a 0.7 lead pencil. Although I did just a little outlining and shading with #4-7 pencils.
Most of this is just lead, I didn't really focus on too much detail, it is a just a sketch on normal computer paper, I really wish I drew this in my sketchbook though, argh.
Well thanks for the reviews guys, much appreciated! :)

~Pink

P.S. Jenthura, ss for your problem, hmmm, my work never turns out glossy with lead unless I'm pressing too hard. I would go to wal-mart or something and buy a pencil kit, it comes with pencils from #1-10. One being the lightest and 10 being the darkest. Never press hard, it ruins the paper, instead you have to go over the dark parts. Shade one way, then shad another way and then switch again. If you really want to know more just go ahead and message me or something, I'd love to tell you what I did and help you in any way I can. :)

Wow, Pink!

I have no talent whatsoever so I am very impressed with what you've done here. I leave all the technical stuff to the ones better suited for this, but I had to tell you that this drawing made me want to grab pen and paper, and WRITE!

Congrats, you are a woman of many talents!

The anatomy is good. I wish I could draw anatomy like that, but I am improving. My tips are that the guy's face looks a little wonky and zoned out, but it's still nice. I would also soften the feathers on the wings; they look a little hard.

Hey there!

I just thought i'd do a review of your drawing, since i draw pretty much myself :)
Your picture is very interesting, i think it gives back the essence of humanity- like "got an angel on one shoulder, and the devil on the other"- but of course with wings. My only problem with the boy's anatomy on your picture is his girlish face- i often make the same mistake myself, that's why i prefer drawing girls. What i do not fully understand is, what is that rectangular thing behind the boy? does it want to be a mirror? If so, then why doesn't it have any depth?
Other than that, maybe you should have put the darker background behind the angel wings and the light one behind the dragons' wings- because in reality we do not see any lines either, only shades.
I hope i helped a bit, go on working like this!
xoxo Lucy

Very nice. I love the detail in his face, especially his eyes. I think you should have put more shading in the angel wings because they appear to be more simple than the dragon wings. I love the use of cross-hatching and what appare to be rays behind him. You have draw his hands and the dragon wings very well. I'm very impressed.

Hey Pink,
First I must say, WOW. That was one powerful drawing. I was amazed. It drew out thoughts of good and evil. The reaction that drawing provoked was amazing. From there I'm at a loss for words. It was amazing. Keep drawing.........PLEASE.

Pretty darn awesome. It's almost flawless. A lot better then what i could have done, and in not half bad. It's good to see someone studying the body to improve their art. I really don't Have many issues with the picture but i will try hard to find some.

1. The hips are a little skewed and the face a little long

2. I don't like the boarder and the flowery stuff it detracts from the beauty of the figure.

That's all I could think of. I love your style and your crosshatching is immaculate. Great work!

Hey Pink! :)
Personally, I think my favorite part of this drawing was the background. Whether it's a mirror or a window, I like the sunbeams and darkness behind him, and I think it adds to your whole theme in general. To me, the floating feather and the little design don't look like they're filling in spaces, only making a picture.

At first glance, I thought there was something off about his face. His eyes and mouth seem too large. He doesn't seem to have enough forehead and bangs, and a bit too much chin. I think that his eyes are supposed to be more level with his ears, but I might be wrong. However, I love his expression, and the more I look at it, the more beautiful it seems.

Oh, and it you look at the bottom angel wing on the left, you'll see it's unfinished. Just a little shading and you're done.

Hope this helped!
Have an awesome day,

Hey there; quick review, as I'm still waking up and this just blew me away.

The anatomy/proportions are perfect. Lovely. You might consider straightening out his right hip bone a bit, as it gets a bit too curvy, but excellent. The lines on the bottom left wing feel a bit wonky to me-- not exactly sure why. There's also a TINY piece where the border hits the wing.

My only other suggestion would be to remove some of the background, as someone else mentioned. As I like the feathers, I would suggest lightening the play with light in the background, and maybe remove the flowers. Everything else is perfect though.

Really Pink, you are fantastic. And I am simply drowning in jealousy. Excellent.

Hi, Pink! :D Nice drawing you've got there!

Anyway, can you believe that I've got nitpicks for you? Haha! :D (Well, I couldn't actually lol.)

Here we go:

Lower Angel Wing - It seems somewhat sharp-looking. I mean, the many of the lines are sharp. (Darn, I'm not good with reviewing drawings XD) The end part is fine though. :)

Demon Wings - These wings should be the ones to be given those sharp lines so that they'll look more 'evil' or something.

Face - He looks a little awkward. xD

Body - You could've given him more shape and more toned abs. XD He'll look better (also the face).

Left Arm - It seems shorter than the other arm even though it's actually bent (It's bent, right?).

The other things I didn't mention are fine and looks almost perfect. :) The drawing could've been better if the demon wings aren't cut. Did you run out of space? o.o The 'frame' or border is fine for me. :) And I love your signature! XD :D I finally saw it! (Or, maybe, I saw it before and forgot o.o)

Okay, first off: This is a very good drawing. I like the detail--the rips, especially--on the dragon-like wings and I love how the light is in his eyes. You also managed freakishly straight lines. *applauds*

However, I will go nuts in editing mode now.

1. The perspective on his left arm (left as if you were him, right if you were looking at him) is a bit off. It appears to be too short.

2. His hip bones protrude too far.

3. He doesn't seem to have anything in his pants. Unless he is like the guy-looking it from "Frozen Fire" or we should all pity him, I suggest making his pants *coughs* a bit lower. Maybe?

4. The lower feathered wing has excellent detail, but it looks rather sharp. You might want to soften it up.

5. The feather is a bit odd--the one at the top corner. I suggest doing something dramatic, thusly. Bright red, deep red, purple, black, indigo--something that POPS. (I just sounded like David-of-the-Purple-Truck. *goes into corner and cries*)

6. His hands are a bit awkward. Just sayin'. They aren't wrong, I suppose, but his fingers just seem really scrawny. Or something. *shrugs*

I think that's all. Hope that helps? But--total WIN, so you know. It's really quite beautiful. I just want to help you get higher on the ladder of 'artistic genius', 'kay?

And, like anyone who draws humans/humanoid things, I suggest getting books by Jack Hamm. He is utter awesome, even if all his examples have 50's hair because his art books were published back then. I know they are great because I have one and the person who gave it to me used to draw pin-up dolls, so obviously it helps with 'realism'.

EDIT: You need to see R.E.M.'s music video for "Losing My Religion". That's what this reminded me of! (And it won some award on MTV when MTV mattered.) I think it's on YouTube.
My SPD senses are tingling.
